About Stephanie

My name is Stephanie and I've been tutoring math and science subjects for over 6 years. I tutored at two colleges in New York as well as privately and through the National Science Foundation. In the past I have also done advising for freshman science majors, run science workshops for young teens, and worked in ecology and marine biology labs. I graduated from Marist College with a 3.9 GPA in 2012 (Biology major with Chemistry minor and concentration in Ecology). Science is my passion and I have experience with most fields of biology (my main areas of expertise being ecology and genetics).

I currently work from home as a science writer/editor so my schedule is very flexible. I have a lot of experience tutoring online so am willing to work with students if online tutoring is preferred. I have completed tutor training courses for CRLA certification so I know how to properly structure lessons and adapt teaching styles.

Two hours notice is required for cancellations. Otherwise, a cancellation fee of $15 will apply.

I look forward to working with you! Send me a message anytime and I'll get back to you within 24 hours.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

My degree is in Biology and it's been my passion for as long as I can remember! I've been tutoring Biology for 5+ years at multiple schools and won a Tutor of the Year award for my work as a Biology tutor. I can generally tutor any level Biology course--elementary to graduate coursework.

Botany

I can tutor most undergraduate Botany courses because my college required a Botany component for all Biology majors. I have taken a dedicated Botany course as well as other courses with Botany sections (such as Ecology and Environmental Biology).

Ecology

My degree was in Biology with an Ecology/Animal Biology concentration. I have worked in two ecology laboratories, taken many ecology courses throughout my college career, and was the president of my college's Biology/Ecology club. I was given a college scholarship for my Biology and Ecology work.

Genetics

Genetics was always a major concentration for me as I worked on my Biology degree. I took every genetics course I could at both undergraduate and graduate levels. After finishing college, I continued to take genetics courses online through Coursera. Genetics is my absolute favorite class to tutor and I offered walk-in genetics tutoring at a university for a couple of years.

Zoology

My college (Marist College) did not offer a general Zoology course but I took many classes with strong Zoology portions (Freshwater Ecology, Ecology, Whale Shark Ecology, Animal Behavior, Marine Biology, Invertebrate Zoology, etc.). My major interests have always been ecology and zoology subjects. My degree at Marist College fit under the Animal Biology/Ecology concentration which is equivalent to Zoology. One of my hobbies outside of academics is animal education and exotic animal care.
