University of Washington (Business Admnin)
My experience tutoring and in leading groups has been successful and enjoyable during 4 years in college, and 4 years one-on-one with my now eight year old son. During my time at the University of Washington I was able to tutor peers, friends, and team members through some of the most difficult quarters we faced. My son has progressed very well academically, and behaviorally over the past 4 years. He even attended a few lectures and team meetings with me at the University of Washington. Likewise, students that I tutored at the U found motivation, creative answers to perplexing questions, and guidance toward additional resources through my tutelage. Of course I also learned a great deal through this process of cooperative productive struggle, both with fellow students and with my son.
Commitment to education is one of my core values, refusal to quit or give up, and integrity in the face of consequence are also among them. One thing I love about tutoring is that moment when the student has an epiphany, when something clicks and their eyes light up. It is really fun to see because I know so well the feeling of struggling and then finally "getting it". Another thing I love about tutoring is that every single teaching experience is a learning experience, and I consider myself a life time learner.
Much of my curriculum as a business major was math based. I achieved a 3.7 GPA while also nightly tutoring a child, and completed math courses as advanced as Calculus I and II for Science, Calculus I and II for Business, Accounting I, II and III, Quantitative methods, Trigonometry, and Finance.
In addition to my own scholarship, my wife is a National Board Certified, Georgia School Board Certified Teacher, with an additional certification for teaching autism. Additionally two of my brothers are Surgeons and one is an Engineer, all University of Washington graduates like me. All of this to say I am no stranger to tutoring, nor to an atmosphere of success through endurance.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
