I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a minor in Mathematics, then I went on to get my Master's degree in Secondary Education with an endorsement Secondary Mathematics. I have been teaching for 4 years at a local high school, working mostly with Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II, though I am comfortable teaching at any math level.

I have always loved tutoring, though I did not really enjoy math when I was in high school. I thought it was just memorizing a bunch of algorithms, and it wasn't until I learned more about teaching math that I found my passion for it. Now that I see the "hows" and "whys" behind the mathematics, I developed a love and respect for mathematics.

In my experience teaching high school, I have helped struggling students gain confidence in their math abilities, and this confidence yields perseverance that helps math students grow and excel like they never could have imagined. I would love to help you grow your confidence and math abilities to improve a math grade, pass a test, or just for the joy of learning more math.

Great tutor with patience and expertise

She really helped me prepare for my upcoming test. She did an excellent job of providing real world examples to make the math more understandable and brone the problem down to its individual components.

Karen helped our daughter with algebra and geometry.

We sought out Karen to help our high school daughter strengthen her math skills. Karen was able to explain algebra/geometry problems in a straight forward and easy to understand manner. Our daughter was able to pick up much needed math, as well as test taking skills, that made a positive effect on her math grade and carried over to other classes she was taking. The biggest take away is that our daughter is no longer apprehensive of math and has a much better attitude regarding algebra and geometry. Thank you, Karen!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Haven't taken a formal Math class in over ten years! So, I would consider myself an extreme case of tutoring needs. However, Karen was very patient and able to understand the concepts I was trying to express a lack of understanding toward. This made me feel very comfortable with asking questions and most certainly aided in my comprehension of the material. Not only was she able to clearly explain and work formulas but the purpose behind mathematical operations was discussed as well. Karen is an excellent tutor and will bring you up to speed.

Karen has been a huge help. She is great at explaining the material so I understand the concepts.

Karen is helping me with my summer Geometry course. I haven't had geometry before and she does a great job of making it easy to understand. She is really nice.

Great tutor- perfect fit for our geometry needs

Nice tutor to work with, she is flexible and easy to reach. My high school age daughter worked with her to get caught up in geometry and she got through all her missing work and understands it. Would definitely recommend this experienced geometry tutor.
