Welcome!

I have taught chemistry for several years part-time at a community college while working full time as a chemist. I have experience teaching high school sciences and maths as well as college level inorganic and organic chemistry.

I have a Masters Degree in Chemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle, and have been employed as a chemist and educator for over twenty years. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and tutored all through my college years. My goal as an instructor is to ensure that the student is comfortable with the material, understands the theory/process behind it, and through whatever means available (rote, practice, modeling, schematics, discussion, debate, visual exploration or kinetic exercise) is able to demonstrate that understanding. When teaching, I explore a concept by discussion with the student(s), then demonstrate several applications of the topic, and finally provide practical problems/exercises for review.

In this way, I try to engage students in the subject matter while they strive for competency as well as confidence in the material - even enjoy it(!). Throughout my years as an instructor, I have had the opportunity to work with students of all levels of capability, and am willing and able to assist with study skills or accommodate other needs as well. It is my hope to facilitate their efforts so that they may attain the goals they have set for themselves and advance into their chosen careers.

I have worked as a laboratory chemist and as an instructor at Tacoma Community College for several years. I have also taught high school level sciences and mathematics. I have tutored or taught for the past thirty years. This has provided me with an extensive background for general mathematics. As an instructor, I strive to provide background information and context to my students so that they not only are able to do the work, but have an understanding of the material as well. I like to provide practice material as well so that students may review the subject by rote as necessary. I approach the material in a patient, non-threatening manner, and try to accommodate the student's needs and time-table to the best of my ability. It is my goal to make math an interesting, if not enjoyable subject. I am detail oriented, and very focused on ensuring that whomever I am working with has a comprehensive, worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

Welcome! My name is Bill, and I have been working as a chemist for several years. I have also been teaching chemistry part-time at Tacoma Community College. I have degrees from Santa Clara University and the University of Washington in Chemistry - majoring in Organic Chemistry. I enjoy the field of chemistry as well as teaching; and have been tutoring for a some time. While the vagaries of chemistry can be vexing, I find that once the basic patterns of chemical behavior have been acquired, it is more comprehensible. I strive to assist students in understanding the 'big picture' as well as the specifics of the material at hand. With sufficient 'vocabulary', the individual topics blend into a mosaic that makes sense, is informative, and useful in many fields such as nursing, bioengineering, biology and other related fields. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your efforts to understand and appreciate this challenging field.

It's good!!!

I have studied with Bill through the spring quarter. He is a very wise teacher and has his way to make sure you understand. I'm from China. The language is different and the class is online. So it enhances the difficulty for me. But with the help of Bill, my grade is on the top of the class and I think I will get an A from this class.

Excellent AP Chemistry tutor

Bill has helped my son gain confidence and improve his grades. He is patient and prepared. He also writes a thoughtful update after lessons that show he is really paying attention to his student’s needs. As a parent, I am grateful for the observations about where my son is improving, what he is still lacking, and how he feels about the process.

Systematic with instruction and extraordinarily knowledgeable in chem and math

Mr. Adams uses simple and clear language to systematically cover large chunks of complicated material. He is a wealth of knowledge in both chemistry and math and his style of instruction makes difficult material very manageable.

Awesome Tutor

William helped my daughter through her sample test for OChem 1 in college. He is a wonderful tutor because he knows how to teach as well as tutor! The best of both worlds! Totally recommend him to those struggling with chemistry!
