I have been an educator for the past twenty years in the Seattle, Shoreline and Mead school districts. Along with experience working with 2nd through 9th graders in all subject areas, I have also had the opportunity to work as a Creative Writing instructor at the community college level. I love working with students of all ages and have been very successful working one-on-one with students to improve and/or extend their skills across all subject areas. I am a patient, compassionate, experienced professional who always has the best interest of her students in mind. I love to come up with interesting and creative ways to really get to know a subject in ways that will resonate with the interests and passions of each individual student.

As a classroom teacher, I have experience working with students in 2nd through 9th grade, and deep experiential background working with 4th-7th graders. The work I did with 4th-7th graders was often advanced work with gifted and talented students, so subjects, topics and units were often based on higher-level reading, writing and thinking skills. This time opened up many avenues of interest for myself and students and added to my background working with students who were tackling middle and high school-level concepts and expectations. Working with gifted and talented youth emphasizes thinking outside the box, integrating two or more subject areas, in-depth writing and publishing as well as a focus on the arts. As an instructor and tutor, I offer students the chance to develop a love for in-depth examination, thinking in imaginative ways and pursuing topics that are of interest and excitement to them.

I bring a background working with a diverse student population, and a wide-range of ages, subjects and academic capabilities to the instructional arena. As a teacher and substitute in the Mead School District, I have had many opportunities to engage in one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction across all subject areas in grades 2-12. This has given me a more fully realized background in remediation, re-teaching and developing units of study that fit the needs of developing readers and writers.

Finally, I have successfully and effectively created and implemented many curricular units of study. This is an area of instruction that I love as it gives me a chance to come up with lesson plans that really interest students, leading them to both short-term success and subject mastery, while leading them to a life-long love of learning and a passion for inquiry and curiosity.

I am endorsed as an English, Language Arts and Creative Writing instructor grades k-12. In addition, I am a published poet and have taught Creative Writing at the Community College level. Twenty years experience developing and teaching innovative Language Arts curricula and integrated English-Writing curriculum. Developed highly successful Vocabulary Acquisition Program for students aged 8-15.

I am looking forward to meeting with you to talk about your academic needs. I have a flexible schedule, and am available most days and evenings. Please contact me to schedule a time to meet so we can discuss how I can help you reach your educational goals.
