Hello students and families!
My approach to tutoring is methodical. I prefer to start working with a diagnostic test to see where help is needed, and then I develop a curriculum and study schedule for families that matches a students' needs. I enjoy applying multiple approaches to problem solving and feel that a systematic approach to learning provides students with a solid knowledge base.
When teaching about words I prefer to provide knowledge about their roots because that gives students a more complete understanding and thus a better chance of remembering them on tests; with math I derive formulas and prove theorems with students so that they have a chance to fully understand them and be best able to use them when the time comes for them to be tested on their knowledge or build on it. I have experience working with students with ADHD, autism, and other developmental disabilities and am committed to dispensing knowledge accessibly.
I have several years of experience as a nanny of school-aged children and have worked with families with multiple children as a nanny and tutor. I have a year of experience SAT and ACT tutoring several students working on test prep. I have a year of experience student teaching working with elementary school students in classes of 20-35 alongside 1-2 other student teachers in a program called Mathigami, wherein we taught students in grades 3-6 about math and the platonic solids through origami. Additionally, I have worked for a year as a substitute paraeducator in the Bellevue School District, and in my job I have assisted students with emotional/behavioral, developmental, and learning disabilities in social and academic aspects of their schooling.
I am currently applying as a transfer student to Eastern Washington University and hope to earn a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate there. I received high grades in my courses in math and reading and an SAT score of 2400. I graduated from La Jolla High School in 2012. I studied for two years at Stanford as a computer s
