CSU-Hayward/East Bay (English Literature)
Walden University (Master's)
I come from the Bay Area in California. My Bachelor's was in English/British Literature. I've always wanted to help people and teaching was a great field to do this that allowed me to meet people from all over the world. When I got my Bachelor's, I wanted to get started in the teaching field right away and travel so I decided to start my teaching career in South Korea.
My six years of teaching in South Korea was an eye opener for me. I realized teaching kids took a lot of energy but was fun and also that I did very well with adults. I spent one year teaching at a private elementary school and then was able to transfer to Dongguk University in Seoul that taught 18-24 year old college students basic English skills such as reading, writing, and speaking. I moved back to the United States to continue teaching September 2015 in Seattle, WA. I moved to Spokane, WA in October 2016.
I started tutoring English to students at my community college about 10 years ago and continued tutoring at my job at the university in Seoul, South Korea. I've taught all the basic skills related to reading and writing. I taught at a private language institute in Seattle, WA and currently am tutoring at a Spokane local community college.
I'm ready to start lessons with anyone who might need to build up their reading and writing skills. If you are interested in my services, please be aware that you must put in payment information first before I can receive or give out contact information. I'm looking forward to working with the local Spokane community!:-) I come from the Bay Area in California. My Bachelor's was in English/British Literature. Yvonne is very kind patient and focused. My daughter loves working with her and looks forward to her lessons with Yvonne. Look forward to watching her progress in reading.
Yvonne is so patient and kind. I especially appreciate that she ties in his schoolwork and checks in with us parents to make sure all our lines of effort are aligned. Yvonne delivers results! We are so grateful for her patient persistence with our son. He went from bottom of the class to the third most advanced reader in the group. Thank you!! Great job!
Yvonne has taught my son, who is an international student here in Seattle. They already met 4 times now, and she patiently works step by step with him, to improve writing, vocabulary and structure. Together, they examined the previous papers and make corrections, so that he can learn from his mistakes. My son enjoy working with Yvonne, she is very punctual and patiently point into detail and create exercise to develop my son's English capability. I am so glad that Yvonne can help him, and I hope he can gain more confidence and improve English.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught elementary school kids from grades 1-6 in South Korea. I have also taught elementary level students on Wyzant in Reading and Writing already with high reviews. I know how to teach and motivate elementary school students who are struggling in learning these subjects. Many of my students just needed more time to understand and/or more confidence in knowing they can improve and build on what they already know.
