I'm currently pursuing my B.A. in Business and possess an A.A. in General Education. I have three years of experience with helping elementary-level students from kindergarten through fifth grade and am currently employed through FNSBSD as an RTI (response to intervention) Assistant during the school year. My favourite subjects by far are writing, mathematics, and reading, and currently help to proof-read and edit college and scholarship essays for fellow peers.
In my spare time, I'm an avid reader and writer, freelance graphic design artist, and practicing violinist. I believe learning should be a fun experience for everyone - especially those in the elementary system - and try my best to incorporate games and hands-on activities to keep learning engaging and ever-interesting.
If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to email me. I'll respond as quickly as I possibly can. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring through the local school district for three years, one as an RTI (Response to Intervention) Assistant with the task of helping to improve student grades and test scores through intervention programs. I've been trained in a number of programs geared toward helping struggling students to catch up to their peers by accredited trainers through FNSBSD. My subjects of focus through my employment have been primarily on math and reading for K-5th grade students.
With 12 years of playing the violin under my belt, I have a wealth of knowledge, tricks, and tips which I can easily pass on to others. I have had the opportunity to teach a small group of elementary-level violinists basic bow and finger positions, musical theory, and the concept of tempo. I always strive to be patient and calm to help students feel as if they can easily play, even if it takes a good chunk of time to teach a basic concept.
