Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Civil Engineering

I received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa with a cumulative GPA of 4.00/4.00 in May, 2002. I also received a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a cumulative GPA of 4.50/5.00 in January, 2005. Though my degrees are in mechanical engineering, civil engineering undergraduates are required to take many of the same core courses. Indeed much of my undergraduate research was done in close collaboration with a civil/environmental engineering professor on the cleanup of contaminated underground aquifers using semi-permeable reactive barriers.

Mechanical Engineering

I received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa with a cumulative GPA of 4.00/4.00 in May, 2002. My areas of focus as an undergraduate were in strength of materials and thermodynamics, though I am well versed in all undergraduate material. I also received a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a cumulative GPA of 4.50/5.00 in January, 2005. My master's thesis was entitled "A Constitutive Model of Active Polymers".

Soccer

As a former first-team all state soccer player from the state of Iowa, I have a solid practical understanding of the fundamentals required for success in the sport. I have coached a team of U-8s (under eight years old), as well as high school freshmen. I have thorough theoretical knowledge as well as a personal passion for the sport.
