About Patricia

All students are capable of learning! That is my motto and has been every since I started teaching 14 years ago. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in English Language Arts (middle school). I have a Masters in Education and a degree in Psychology. My career started out in Middle School, specifically teaching Language Arts, Social Studies and Leadership for six years. I then moved to 4th and 5th grade in Elementary for 3 years before heading back to Middle School. From 2011-2015 I taught math to grade level and advance students in 6th -8th grade. I absolutely loved it! As Washington State transitioned to Common Core Standards I attended Professional Development to become an expert in the standards.

I decide to tutor because I wanted to have a more flexible job for my family. I resigned my teaching position in June of 2015 and decided to tutor and sub. This has given me the best of both worlds. I get to continue to be part of what is going on in our schools, by being a sub and at the same time I get to work one on one with students and continue to witness "Aha" moments from my students as a tutor!!! All the while having a flexible schedule for my family. I have been tutoring and subbing since September 2015, wondering why I did not do this sooner.

I have the skills and background in the Common Core Standards. I have a strength in being able to teach a variety of different types of learners. I am driven by my students "aha" moments, when a student truly grasps a skill for the first time. I am patient and reflective. I believe in my students!! I have been passionate about my career as a teacher, with the drive to start and certify as a National Board Certified Teacher. I bring that passion to my tutoring as well.

We will have fun while learning!! We will work diligently together to exceed the goals you make as my student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have worked the past few years to become an expert in Common Core Standards. I have directly taught Common Core Standards for Math 6-8.

Elementary (K-6th)

For the past 13 years, I have taught 10 years in Middle School and 3 year in elementary (4th and 5th grade). The past 4 years I have been teaching middle school math to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. This unique experience allows me to not only be familiar with elementary students academics, but to also be an expert in what students will need to know as they move onto middle school. I have a great foundation in the Common Core Math Standards. I am a National Boards Certified teacher in English Language Arts. And I have an endorsement in English Language Arts. My experiences as an educator allows me to be a great asset to elementary students.

Elementary Math

I have taught Elementary Math for 3 years (4th and 5th grade). I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math to grade level and advance math students for the past 4 years. I have worked directly with the Common Core Standards.

Prepared and patient!

My son has only had one lesson with Tricia but she has great ideas to encourage him and help him grow! Tricia was prepared and very patient with my chatty son. She was able to show him his strengths and use the strengths in the areas where he is struggling. This is just what my son needs!
