I am a dedicated tutor with extensive experience in a variety of subjects, and I tailor lessons to match your comfort level, speed and duration of study. I encourage positive learning habits and strive to help you achieve your personal and education goals through a well-rounded learning experience. There are no limits when it comes to your desire to learn; I love helping my students reach their potential!

Language/Spanish/English/ESL:

My first experience teaching languages and writing was when I initiated and taught my first Spanish language program in my hometown of Monroe and continued it for two years and a summer while in college. I was excited to share my passion for language and the doors it opens to each of my students every day. Since then, I enjoy putting my Spanish language fluency up for critique during my travels and at work (working in a diverse educational environment), and I exercise my other linguistic teaching experience by tutoring students and editing a variety of document types f or personal and professional jobs.

Mathematics:

I have been tutoring students in mathematics since my youngest family member first showed an interest in playing “Grocery Store.” I studied a year ahead of my peers throughout my pre-secondary and secondary education; after taking the AP Calculus AB test out of high school, I then advanced my studies for my collegiate career. I believe mathematics is a necessary and intricate subject with the potential to provide endless pathways to understand and solve problems, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Sciences:

I have always enjoyed the natural sciences and most enjoy teaching young scientists in their current fields of study, whether in elementary or secondary school. I am a nature lover, excellent with understanding outdoor sciences, and passed all science courses throughout my academic career with flying colors. I am happy to extend my passion for sciences and rigorous study to you!

Art:

I am a naturally artistic person with experience in countless creative subjects—painting, pastels, photography and videography, sewing, embroidery, glass and bead crafts, cooking, DIY and home crafts, and candle-making, to name a few. I love passing my knowledge along to others interested in trying something new or learning a new technique to embellish their craft. Art is truly satisfying for the soul!

Study Skills:

I have always been studious and a devoted learner with the initiative to start something new or buckle down and finish the task at hand with a positive attitude. I am very organized and set goals for myself; I think setting up a system that works for each learner and their way of thinking and processing information best assists tasks to be prioritized and accomplished. Also, I believe everyone has skills and nuances of their personality and learning styles to contribute to this world, and I have studied with and helped train many students who have provided me with different teaching methods and critiques of each style I’ve used. I use this experience to tailor my lessons to the ways which help my future students learn best. Help me help you, and let’s have fun!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have 5+ years experience tutoring and providing learning support for students ages 6-22 years and older. I also have 3+ years of experience teaching students basic math principles and learning skills through high school math courses (Algebra, Geometry, Math Analysis, Statistics). I possess extensive academic and career knowledge of algebraic functions and using mathematic skills in the workforce. I maintained advanced placement in mathematics throughout my educational career.

Ballroom Dancing

I have been dancing for the past 10 years, with tracked experience teaching theater casts and high school students salsa dancing and waltz choreography. I also have professional training in ballroom dancing by an instructor/studio in Bellevue, which began in January 2015, and I am currently working toward my certification as a ballroom dance instructor. I have also performed in a number of stage and showcase performances, the most recent being two showcase studio performances in late June 2015 (foxtrot and tango).

Drums

Music is amazing! I have been musical since I was five years old, and quickly embraced piano and percussion with my natural sense of rhythm and hand-eye coordination. I have since been a member of my high school and college drumlines, performed with a percussion ensemble for 20+ stage performances including festival competitions in California and throughout Washington State, and marched with the WSU Cougar Marching Band for football and basketball seasons. I have an extensive percussive and musical knowledge, and I believe in a well-rounded teaching and learning approach including all instruments in the percussion family. I am eager to share with other enthusiastic learners!

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently work in K-6 elementary education, including assisting with multiple elementary programs, and I have tutored multiple students in elementary school in subjects including science, math, writing, reading and Spanish throughout the past several years. I also taught elementary language classes in Spanish for several years as part of a non-profit and teaching-in-the-community initiative at elementary schools and my local YMCA.

English

I am a native English speaker with 20+ years of language proficiency and actve learning and critique. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from WSU's journalism program, which rigorously tests reading, writing and speaking skills in English. I also passed my university writing tests with a Pass with Distinction score and resulting honors, which means my scores were in the highest percentile of all tested students at the institution. During my collegiate career, and since graduating, I have tutored many students at a variety of reading and writing levels including ESL and elementary learners.

ESL/ESOL

I am a young professional in my twenties who is passionate about language learning and traveling the world to put my skills to the test. I have traveled to more than 20 countries and territories outside the continental United States, including Mexico and Cuba, and I've had a fair share of fun exploring about 25 of our states. Most recently, I traveled to Havana, Cuba, on a backpack journalism trip; I collected as many stories as I could without the help of the Internet or outside communication to finish writing and publish online once I returned to the U.S. I most enjoyed putting my Spanish language fluency up for critique during those travels; it allowed me to learn more practical uses of the language, interact honestly with citizens of those countries and gain a more natural command of my languages, as well.

As a tutor or teacher, I adapt to my students' individual levels and styles of learning. I perfected this approach, both to teaching and to life, while serving as a Resident Adviser during my years of study at WSU. I initiated and taught my first Spanish language program in my hometown of Monroe and continued it for two years and a summer while in college. I was excited to share my passion for language and the doors it opens to each of my students every day, and I look forward to doing that with you! I am energetic but patient, an excellent listener and empathetic about life's challenges. I have three siblings, also, so I am particularly good at embracing a variety of homes and lifestyles while teaching and helping multiple students at once.

Please contact me at your convenience for an excellent language learning experience filled with practical ways to use language, practice it, embrace the numerous cultures it represents, and set goals that reflect how you want to use your language skills throughout your life!

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook has been my professional platform in a number of positions I have held over the years, so I have about 6 years of personal, academic and professional use as well as experience teaching others how to navigate the online email system. I am confident in all matters of online scheduling and emailing using Microsoft Outlook and praise its flexibility for different professional platforms.

Painting

Aside from being in the top tier of my collegiate painting class in 2013, I have been painting for about 10 years and LOVE it! My primary medium is acrylic on canvas (I usual construct my own canvases, as well), but I also have experience in watercolors and creative painting media (working on pottery, walls, glass, etc.). My favorite scenes to paint are landscapes and seascapes, but a good still life or creative twist on something I see or imagine is never out of the running! I teach painting in an "all hands on deck!" kind of way while helping students to understand basic theories of art (shapes, shading, color sciences), because you need to get your hands dirty to find your own special style! That is true art to me.

Photography

I first embraced photography when my mother sat me down at age 10 and showed me her old Nikon camera with the film in it. She bought me my first wind-up film camera, and I fell in love! No camera or subject was safe after that, and I have been an avid photographer ever since. I have shot two weddings, more than 10 personal/family/friend photoshoots, three graduation photoshoots and several couples together. I also embrace the peace I can find when I just wander through the beauty of the Pacific Northwest on my own. Examples of my work can be found online, but the quickest way to see a personalized selection of what you want to learn more about is by emailing me here!

Prealgebra

I also have 3+ years of experience teaching students basic math principles and learning skills through high school math courses (including Prealgebra). I possess extensive academic and career knowledge of algebraic functions and using mathematics skills in the workforce. I maintained advanced placement in mathematics throughout my educational career.

Public Speaking

With a BA in Communications and Spanish and emphasis on coordinating public events throughout my collegiate career, I have acquired extensive public speaking training and teaching experience. I have tutored peers in public speaking at the college level and excelled in my training while working toward my broadcasting degree. I also learned detailed public speaking tips while studying Spanish and traveling abroad of the past 6 years.

Salsa Dancing

I have been dancing for the past 10 years, with tracked experience teaching high school students salsa dancing during an academic showcase that lasted for one year. I have performed in a number of stage and showcase performances, one of which was salsa and many of which are impromptu social dancing throughout Seattle and Bellevue. I also have professional training in ballroom dancing by an instructor/studio in Bellevue, which began in January 2015, and I am currently working toward my certification as a ballroom dance instructor. Salsa was the first dance I formally learned and won a competition in, and I am excited to teach you!

Study Skills

I have always been a productive student and learned a variety of successful studying techniques. Throughout my collegiate career, I taught incoming college freshmen study tips and strategies on healthy living and learning throughout their first year of college, and I made it fun for everyone involved. That included students with a variety of different learning disabilities and personal challenges. My academic record is a strong indicator of my productivity as a student; I graduated Magna Cum Laude and at the top of my college class at The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at WSU. I currently work in broadcasting in Seattle where I exercise exceptional time-management and organizational skills as well as impeccable note-taking and attentiveness on a daily basis. I also have a current student who I am successfully teaching study skills, as she has been diagnosed with Cognitive Processing Disorder; I have been working with her successfully over the summer to improve her organizational skills and study habits. As a direct result, she is a brighter and more confident student going into her junior year of high school.
