Writing

As a chemical engineer a big part of my career has been spent writing reports on my work. I believe I can assist students in learning how to write clearly and succinctly. I also used math every day in my work.

Prealgebra

I have over 40 years working as a successful chemical engineer using chemistry and math to solve problems in manufacturing, and developing new chemical products. I have both laboratory and plant experience. I have also spent many years coaching soccer, baseball, and fast pitch softball. I am committed to helping students succeed. I was on a school board for six years. I am married with three grown children and 8 grandchildren.

Chemical Engineering

I have both my B.S. and M.S degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. I have more than 40 years of experience in both research and manufacturing. I have worked in the nuclear, pulp and paper, organic lignin products, and inorganic products industries. I hold two patents related to chemical engineering. I am currently working full time as a Chemical Engineer.

Differential Equations

I have both my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. I have more than 40 years of experience in both research and manufacturing. Differential equations are the foundation for using heat, mass and momentum transfer (fluid flow) to solve real life engineering problems. Along with chemistry these foundation are the backbone of chemical engineering. In graduate school I also studied using partial differential equations to solve engineering problems. In one research project I used differential equations to develop models to more accurately control reactors dissolving spent nuclear fuel elements in hydrofluoric acid.

Organic Chemistry

I have both my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. I have more than 40 years of experience in both research and manufacturing. I worked most of those years in the pulp and paper industry which is based on making products out of organic, wood based materials. I managed an organic lignin chemical products group, and along with a PhD chemist received a patent to make artificial vanillin organic based flavoring (vanillin - the main flavoring in vanilla extract) out of old newspapers.
