Bio

Hi! I'm Jon. I work professionally in computer science, which is a branch of mathematics. I graduated from Cornell University with majors in both (along with a minor in psychology). I always loved studying math, but I remember that when I would encounter a difficult topic, it was like running into a brick wall. Ouch! Very frustrating. The best way over was always to talk to someone who had already been there, who could give me a fresh point of view. After that it was smooth sailing...

Hi! After that it was smooth sailing again. As a tutor, I want to be that person who's been there, to help you get through those difficult patches so you can keep learning and having fun.

In college, professors would sometimes hire me to tutor the students in the introductory classes. It was fun! We would meet every week and go through any question they had on anything. I would go through the professor's notes with them, but if there were still difficulties, I would find a new approach, something very different from the professor's. A couple rounds of this were usually enough to solve anything.

My approach is very flexible, it depends on the individual student, because everybody is in a different place in the journey and may need something different. Maybe things are mostly fine but you need to spend more time on some specific thing. Or maybe you'd like another way of looking at something. Or maybe you'd like to know why things are the way they are, and why it matters. Or maybe you're ready to look at additional topics beyond what you've been studying, and see more of the big picture. Let's talk about where you are and where you are looking to get to.

Please reach out to me any time, I'm quick to respond, and happy to help.
