Hi, I’m Ashley! I came to Seattle to attend the University of Washington, and, after my husband and I stayed at UW for what turned out to be seven degrees between the two of us, we ended up staying in this beautiful city. At UW I was accepted into the Honors Program and graduated Magna Cum Laude in four years with double degrees in Biology and Psychology because I everything about those disciplines fascinated me. My end goal was always to do something in the medical field, and I was accepted into doctoral programs in both pharmacy and physical therapy at UW. However, I came to the realization that I was pursuing these fields more from a sense of obligation than desire, and when I sat down and looked at everything I loved to do, it all centered around teaching. In my spare time, I always found myself tutoring in UW’s tutoring centers, assisting high school teachers in underfunded classrooms, helping students with their homework after school, and even teaching horseback riding lessons to kids (I am an avid rider who loves to train and compete in my time outside of teaching).

So, to the chagrin of some friends and family members, I gave up my spots in both doctoral programs to pursue a career I was passionate about rather than a more lucrative one. I attended UW’s School of Education instead and earned both a Master in Teaching degree with a 3.97 GPA and my teaching certificate. I’ve never looked back. There is nothing that beats the feeling of helping someone else understand a new concept for the first time. Of course I’m partial to science, but knowledge, no matter the discipline, helps people understand and appreciate the world around them, and I love playing a role in helping students uncover this knowledge.

In my career so far, I’ve taught at three very different schools, which makes me uniquely suited to work with anyone who needs help. For my student teaching, I worked in a high-needs, diverse 8th grade science classroom where students in my class ranged from those struggling to read to those ready to e

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

My biology degree required a year of college calculus, so I have experience taking math through that level. My first teaching job was at a small private school that taught students in a one-to-one approach, so I was essentially tutoring middle and high school students full time. In this role, I taught both science and math, including Algebra I for a couple of years. I love teaching Algebra I because it is the foundation of so many subjects.
Biology,

Biology

I earned a magna cum laude degree in Biology from the University of Washington. As part of my coursework, I took a vast array of biology courses, ranging from microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, physiology, evolution, and ecology, amongst others, so I have a strong foundation in the field of biology. I have also taught biology for more than ten years and helped students of all learning styles find success.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I majored in Biology at UW, which meant I took a year of general chemistry, a year of organic chemistry, and a year of biochemistry. I currently teach a class that is an interdisciplinary course of biology and chemistry woven together.

Great tutor

Complicated chemistry topics I previously did not understand were explained very well. I now know more about how orbitals and energy levels work! She takes great notes and is very organized! Class is engaging and fun!
