I love what I do and students who work with me experience tremendous benefit, not only in test scores and grades, but also gains in self-confidence and a heightened interest in the broader subjects of STEM.

What I offer:
-Regular course support, K-12 for all levels of Math and Physics.
-Test Preparation: High level, individualized test prep programs for math portions of the SAT/ACT, AP Calculus, AP Physics, high school entrance (SSAT/SHSAT/ISEE), as well as the Regents in Physics or any level of Regents Math.
*APPLIED MATHEMATICS* An enrichment course that exposes students to wide ranging real-world applications of the math as they're encountering each concept at school. My course fosters a deep understanding and interest in Mathematics both as a practical tool and as a means to understand reality. Topics include personal finance, data analysis, programming, economics, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, earth science and more.

My physics background gives me a special interest for mathematics in nature and I genuinely enjoy sharing my knowledge, which is obvious to students and keeps them highly engaged. I share with my students how particular concepts apply to the world around them, especially in trickier cases. I provide the “how” and “why” that serves to engage curiosity and cement a firm intuition for new concepts.

I’m confident in my ability and in addition to a risk-free first lesson, I’ll fully refund the first 3 paid sessions if you’re not completely satisfied. I may be new to the Wyzant platform, but I’ve experienced consistent, great success across an enormous spectrum of student skill levels and personality. I love to learn and sharing my treasured knowledge doesn’t feel like work, so I’m highly motivated to go the extra mile both in my preparation and in sessions.

If you’re interested in working with me, I’d love to talk

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I co-taught Algebra 2 course for 4 years. I'm very solid with the material and am quite familiar with the common patterns and problem types that appear on the exam. I've helped students score upwards of 90 on a regular basis and can do that for you, too!
Geometry,

Geometry

I scored in the 99th percentile in the geometry subsection of the Quantitative GMAT. In addition to hundreds of hours of informal geometry tutoring, I logged over 40hrs of geometry tutoring for the SHSAT, ISEE and Regents Exams (August 2019).
Physics,

Physics

High performing physics teacher who taught Regents/AP Physics for 4 years in Jamaica, Queens. Although incoming students were severely disadvantaged and lagged academic standards by multiple years, my students quickly forgot their anxiety/avoidance of math, and in a complete reversal, became engaged and motivated and put a ton of effort into what was, in retrospect, an aggressively thick packet of review questions each and every weekend. Students passed the Physics Regents with a 4-year average of 86%, well above city and state averages. And last I heard, a surprising amount were well into the weeds of various STEM intro series at college.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I've classified every published problem using my own criteria and have a growing library of official unpublished exams for student practice. I know the content, the shortcuts, the pitfalls that are designed into the test and effective problem solving strategies to keep the student moving, with confident efficiency. I'm kind, patient, and truly enjoy sharing knowledge with students and watching them progress.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

While teaching physics for 4 years in Jamaica, Queens. I co-taught an eight-week ACT crash course for our juniors each fall. Students found the class to be surprisingly interesting and engaging. and when it came time for testing, we found that our ACT students consistently scored ~5-10 percentage points higher than their fellow classmates who took a separate SAT course. I know the test quite thoroughly, and students wont just learn the material, but solid strategies that improve their efficiency and handling of many of the tougher question types.

Math

Brian was very nice and encouraging and seemed to have a good perspective on what my daughter needs (and doesn’t need) to work on. I’d recommend Brian for your math tutor.

Cara, 2 lessons with Brian

Knowledgeable and dedicated teacher

I’ve been working with Brian for a few weeks on the SAT and he’s been very helpful! He knows the content and is quite good at explaining difficult concepts in a way that makes them stick. He also goes above and beyond and takes time outside of tutoring hours to answer questions and provide additional practice. I highly recommend Brian! 5 Stars
