About William

Hello, I'm William (or Bill). I began teaching while in graduate school at the University of Washington – instructing undergraduates in English Composition. In recent years, I've worked as a private tutor: helping beginning students with reading and language fundamentals and advanced students with essay writing. In the Digital Age, younger students are finding it increasingly difficult to master basic language skills, while older students are struggling to make their thoughts march out logically on paper. The good news is that these are learnable skills.

Although I enjoy working with teenagers and college students, I also love teaching children. I taught my own children to read at an early age and loved the process. Helping beginning readers to crack the code and read with confidence is a process I find extremely rewarding.

I’ve enjoyed success as a tutor over a wide age-range: teaching small children to read; coaching younger students in basic grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary; and helping high school and college students to write essays and prepare for College Boards.

In my other life, I’ve twice been name Seattle ‘Artist-in-Residence’ by the Seattle Arts Commission — and my plays have been staged both in the U.S. and abroad.

I’m easy to reach. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule an appointment.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Knowledgeable, patient and prepared

Bill was able to share his knowledge and experience in a very easy to assimilate manner. He used my son's written work as tool to understand the writing process. My son felt that he was very helpful and easy to learn form.
