About Lloyd

I'm Lloyd T., a native of Liberia, West Africa. I hold a Bachelor's degree in information technology (IT) from the University of Washington (UW) and finishing up my Master's in information management (IM) also at the UW.

My interest in tutoring is based on the fact that I get a sense of fulfillment when I help others understand a particular subject or concept that seem harder than it is. It also helps me reinforce my knowledge about a topic; as the saying goes: "you learn a lot by teaching others."

I got my start in tutoring back in my freshman year of high school in 2002 up to my senior year in 2005. Being a brilliant student overall and being good in numbers-based subjects like mathematics, physics, accounting, and cost accounting, I tutored my fellow classmates and friends. Additionally, I worked as a teacher's assistant in my senior year of high school and taught mathematics and accounting to other senior students. These experiences improved my knowledge, tutoring skills and interaction with others. One important skill I have learned through tutoring is patience. It is very important to be patient with others you tutor in order to give them the chance to grasp the material.

I really hope that students I tutor get the most out of the learning process and can be great at whatever area they hope to pursue. Therefore, I am open to any suggestions and feedback students give that are helpful to the learning process. I am just a response away and very prompt in my response to questions/concerns. Feel free to contact me to schedule a lesson or with any questions.

I am good at converting questions into real world examples to simplify the learning process and give the students an idea of understanding abstract problems.

I been in touch with computers since 2003. I know a lot about the input, processing, output and storage model of computing and possess advanced degrees in computing. This gives me a leverage to tutor in the field of computing and help others get to know computing as well. My key areas of specialization are networking and web development using HTML/CSS.

Feel free to contact and learn more about my availability.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

CSS

I have an IT background and have taken several classes in CSS. I have also build web pages using CSS.

Networking (Computer)

I have an IT background and interest in networking. I took several networking courses (information networking, routing and switching, and network security) during my undergraduate studies.
