My lifelong love of learning inspires my passion for tutoring. I enjoy the intellectual challenge of explaining difficult material or expressing concepts in multiple ways, but I enjoy the satisfaction of seeing a student finally grasp a concept with which they struggled even more. At Dartmouth, I studied biological chemistry and economics. My coursework included advanced classes in chemistry and economic theory as well as empirical research in economics. This gives me a strong foundation in the sciences and quantitative disciplines. I graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest honor society, and competed as varsity athlete in cross country and track, earning four academic All-Ivy honors. As a tutor, I will bring the same fastidiousness and ability to embrace a challenge that helped me to earn these accolades.
My tutoring experience spans a variety of subjects and age groups. I have volunteered as math and ESL tutor for middle school students. I served as a peer tutor for calculus and general chemistry at Dartmouth. I was also selected as a "resident expert" for economics, facilitating an open study hall for student-athletes enrolled in introductory and foundation level economics courses required for majors and minors. My specialties are math (precalculus, calculus, statistics), science (chemistry, biology, physics, biochemistry), and economics though I embrace the challenge of tutoring in other subject areas for which I am qualified.
I believe that the key to successful tutoring is building a strong rapport between tutor and student. It helps me to motivate students, assess strengths and weaknesses as well as gauge confidence. Beyond close relationships, my tutoring philosophy that problem-solving is the best route to achieving content mastery and to developing confidence. It is important to challenge students without overwhelming them. I also believe that it is essential to build strong problem-solving intuition so that students can use what they know to comprehend material presented in an unfamiliar manner as it may be on tests and other assessments.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies.

Brian broke down what seemed to be a very complicated statistics course into something that I could understand a whole lot better. He stayed on top of every tutor lesson we had scheduled and made sure I was following along every step of the way. He asked me questions to make sure I was grasping what was being taught and stayed patient through my uncertainties. He’s the best, I highly recommend him!Alec, 8 lessons with Brian
