B.A. Sonoma State University (Fine Arts, Drawing a)
I fell in love with drawing from observation at an early age, and love watching students develop a passion for the arts. I believe strongly that the problem solving skills learned through the visual arts teach us to be more flexible and innovative. The arts allow us to explore possibilities outside the linear boundaries of some other disciplines.
During college I studied abroad in Florence,Italy. I tested into The Academy of Fine Arts, where I spent a year studying drawing and painting. I have my California teaching credential. For the last five years I have been teaching Art 1 and 2 at a High School, serving 9-12 grade. In addition, I spent a year teaching an after School Art program, for 6-12 year olds, through Healdsburg Center for the Arts.
I love to continue learning and growing as an artist. I continue to take workshops on a regular basis, from master artists. Some of the workshops to note, that I have recently attended: a composition workshop on The Notan with Mitchell Alba, a 5 day chalk pastel workshop with David Kassan, and a 4 day portrait painting workshop with Sean Cheetham. I am also signed up for an oil painting portrait workshop with David Gray. In addition I regularly attend figure drawing groups with the live model.
My love is painting and drawing the figure and portraits, and often draw animals. I am proficient in both still life and landscape drawing/painting. I have a strong background in traditional drawing from observation using graphite, charcoal, chalk pastels and ink. I am also comfortable teaching painting with acrylics and/or oils. I am more than happy to forward samples of my work upon request, or can bring samples to an introductory meeting.
I love working with students interested in learning how to further their skills, or just explore their creativity. Although I personally love pursuing more traditional drawing and painting, I encourage students to pursue their individual styles- if they are not interested in a more traditional aesthetic. Igniting the passion of the visual arts, in students of all levels, is really my goal.
I think the tutoring should be driven by your personal goals and desires. I would love to see your work and discuss what you are interested in pursuing.
