About Tina

I have been in situations in foreign countries not knowing the language so understand the challenges that presents! I also love, love, love the art of communication in it's many forms. I have been involved in the theatre arts for most of my life as well. I find a background in the performing arts to be very useful in teaching English as a second language. I believe learning should be fun!

I gear my lessons towards the specific needs, interests, and challenges of each individual student. We all have a preferred way of learning, with unique strengths and weaknesses. Let's enhance your strengths, and bring up your weaknesses. I am patient and adaptable. We could meet at a coffee shop, I could come to you, or I have a home office. Whichever is most convenient for you, or we could mix it up. I'm not sure how the online tutoring works, but once I find out, I'm open to that as well, although I've always preferred face to face.

I received my TESOL Certification through Oxford Seminars. I currently volunteer at Women's Refugee Center helping with a variety of native languages get more comfortable with English.

I look forward to hearing from you, and figuring out the best way I can help you achieve your goals in regards to bettering your understanding and appreciation of the English language. Whether it be speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation, or specific subject, I'm here to help.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I am ESL certified through Oxford Seminars. I have always been particularly fond of words and love teaching. My first job when I was only 14 was to teach tap dancing to children younger than myself, so I have been teaching various modalities for a long time. I am 55 now.
I have been volunteering quite some time now at REWA, Women's Refugee Center.
