About Jonah

I've spent the last five years as a writer, editor, and teacher, working with people of every age and ability to help develop the skills required for clear, concise, and beautiful writing. After graduating high school at seventeen, I obtained perfect SAT scores in the writing and critical reading sections as well as a 97% percentile score in the ACT. Since then, I've spent every day of my life in the business of the written word - writing, publishing, editing, appraising, and selling everything from poetry to theology.

In addition to my English experience, I've also helped to teach Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Precalculus to students from junior high to college. As someone who struggled with mathematics in my early school years, I know all too well the frustrations and pitfalls that so many young students encounter. Luckily, through hard work and the help of some great instructors, I was able to develop a love for math - especially algebra - and end my schooling with a perfect 800 on the math SAT. Since then I've taken individual and college classes through all algebra subjects. I finished my last class, a calculus review course, with a solid 4.0.

My most important focus in tutoring is setting clear, achievable goals that play to the strengths of the student. We'll start by identifying areas for improvement and developing a roadmap for study and practice; I'm happy to meet a handful of times if you're just looking to tighten up a single skill, or to develop a long-term plan for serious development and growth if more work is required.

With me, you don't get a stuffy instructor who assigns homework and then checks out. You get an engaged, exciting teacher who is willing to invest in your development with detailed, personalized lesson plans and a true investment in your success. You also get someone with competitive rates and flexible scheduling options - because the tools for academic success should be open to everyone, not just those with money and time to burn!

I charge $30 an hour for in-person tutoring, and I'll never charge for the work I do outside of that time to compile lesson plans and study programs. For SAT/ACT prep, I also provide the materials for practice! Please contact me any time to learn more about my schedule and the services I offer. I'm always happy to consult with you over the phone or online, free of charge. Together, I know we can achieve your academic goals and, more importantly, cultivate a real love for the English language and a deep appreciation for mathematics and science. I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

awesome, nice, smart, genuine tutor!!

Jonah has only tutored me two times so far but already I feel I have learned more English and reading than I have in my English classes. He is genuine and kind. Jonah has impressed my parents and is just an enjoyable presence to have around. I will continue to take tutoring lessons from him and I feel that I will see my SAT scores improve!
