About Brian

Bio

I love helping people who want to learn new skills. I want to share my experience, and get them up the learning curve quickly.

I've tutored many people, privately and at work. I love seeing the “light bulb” click on, when someone grasps the concept and says “Oh, I get it!”

I worked for years in Product Design and Development, working with smart people. I gained an in-depth knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Project, Powerpoint and Word. My work was computer intensive, meaning I can help people who want to get better at using computers effectively.

I mentored and career-coached several folks. I rose through the ranks, and held several Director level positions, and shared the ways to climb those rungs on a career ladder. Again, very satisfying to me, since I could share my knowledge and help people reach their full potential.

Career Development,

Career Development

As a manager for many years, the professional development of my staff was crucial to our team's success. My management proficiency was recognized, and I was invited by HR to help with training classes for new managers and project managers. And classes for anyone who wanted to improve their professional expertise. I was also asked by individuals to be their mentor.
Microsoft PowerPoint,

Microsoft PowerPoint

I've used PowerPoint since it was first released. I've developed my own slide decks for many presentations to audiences of 100+. The slide decks were often sophisticated with graphics, overlays and animations to convey information to the audience. Subject matter was often technical and detailed, and the complete file size often exceeded 100MB.

Microsoft Project,

Microsoft Project

I've used Microsoft Project and other project scheduling and management tool for many, many years. And I managed Program Managers, which involved in depth reviews of their MS Project files. Our Gantt charts ranged from 20 to 500 lines (though longer is not necessarily better, and can cause problems!) For me, MS Project is invaluable for planning the project, the resources needed, the critical path, and then, tracking progress. MS Project is also valuable in ensuring the team knows the goals, the activities that are required to reach the goal, and to see their role and responsibilities.

Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

My electrical degree allowed me to work as an EE and SE for many years, and later, to manage engineers on our electrical development projects. As a result, I haven't personally designed circuitry in recent years, but nevertheless was deeply involved with schematic reviews, circuitry changes/enhancements, and personally troubleshooting using analyzers and oscilloscopes. I can tutor basic and intermediate level material.
