About Amanda

Hello! My name is Amanda and I am originally from Wisconsin where I received my degree in Genetics and a certificate in American Indian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which is consistently ranked as one of the highest public schools in the nation. I am in the Seattle area pursing my Masters of Social Work. My past tutoring experiences include an YMCA After School Program, which I worked at for almost two years. I have also worked as a substitute teacher at the middle school and high school levels. In addition to tutoring and teaching, I am a successful grant writer. I have worked with students of all levels, including those with special needs. Detail orientated, organized, patient, and professional, I want to help you succeed and be confident in your abilities. I specialize in science, writing, social studies, English, and reading. Thank you for your consideration!

I have a sincere curiosity for science and believe that having an understanding of science is a quality that will make you successful in today's world. I received my Bachelors of Science in Genetics and have learned how to explain science in terms that anyone can understand. I have taught science classes as a substitute teacher.

I have had success as a grant writer, being awarded nearly $100,000 in the past two years. Reading and writing are hobbies that I enjoy. I have taught reading classes as a substitute teacher.

Teaching and mentoring is a passion of mine. I want to empower you to do your best. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

I took ballet classes growing up for ten years. I have danced soft shoe and pointe. Last year, I started a ballet class in the After School Program of Dupree High School, teaching grades K-5. We had two recitals this past spring.

Genetics

I have a B.S. in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While attending undergrad, I was involved with the Undergraduate Genetics Association, eventually becoming its president. Part of the associations purpose is to provide science outreach and education in the community. I participated in events for youth such as DNA Extraction using bananas.
