About Nina

I love learning and want to teach other students to love learning as well. I think it is very important for students not to feel lost in a class, so that they can enjoy it. Certain classes might not seem fun to a student yet, but that might be because they don't really understand the class. I want to help those students better understand the classes, so that they can find joy in those classes.

I graduated from the International Academy in Bloomfield, Michigan as valedictorian and have an IB diploma. I am attending the University of Washington and hope to major in either microbiology or neurobiology. I have tutored several of my classmates in high school before and as a result they received better grades. I have also tutored my younger siblings in math before and they, too, improved their grades. Tutoring is very rewarding to me because not only does it enable me to help improve students’ grades, but it also enables me to change the perception of a student to a class from negative to positive.

I have taken IB (International Baccalaureate) Higher Level Math in my junior and senior year of high school, which includes Calculus 1 and 2, trigonometry, and probability. These classes not only taught me how to solve calculus problems, but also to apply calculus to numerous real life situations. I received an A in both junior and senior year in math and a 6 (the scores are out of 7) on my HL IB Math exam. I have tutored one of my classmates for the midterm and as a result she received a good grade.

I have a passion for both Biology and Chemistry and would love to help students understand what they are struggling with in these subjects. I took IB Biology and IB Chemistry in junior and senior year and received an A for both of them in both years. I received a 7 on both the HL Biology and HL Chemistry IB exams. I have never officially tutored anyone in these classes, but have always explained certain problems or ideas to classmates that they did not understand.

I am fluent in German since I am German and lived in Switzerland close to the border of Germany until I was ten. I also took German literature classes when I was living in the states. Therefore, I would be a great tutor for German vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. I could also speak German with the student to improve their speaking skills. I took five years of Spanish in both middle school and high school. Four of those years were at the IB level in high school. I received A’s in all my Spanish classes. I took the HL Spanish IB exam and received a 6, only two points away from a 7. I wrote a 4000 word essay in Spanish in the summer between my junior and senior year. Therefore, I would not only be able to help with vocab and grammar, but also writing skills in Spanish.

Feel free to contact me if you need help in any of those subjects and I would love to help you succeed and reach your goals in these classes.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
