About Paula

As a graduate student at the University of Washington, I spend much time reading, writing, and editing grant applications. I have an English minor from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and I have extensive experience in writing, editing, proofreading, and presenting.

I have received several writing-based awards including the National Science Foundation (NSF) GRFP Fellowship Award in 2016. I am also a native Polish speaker and can translate between English and Polish. Reading and writing have always been my passion and I look forward to helping others master their ability to clearly present their ideas through writing.

In writing, I can provide help with college entrance essays, graduate school personal statements, grant application essays such as the NSF, and GRE writing prep. In addition, I can assist K-12 students with writing papers for school as well as help college, graduate, and adult writers clearly and concisely present their ideas in written form. In ESL-language tutoring, I can provide help with pronunciation, reading, and writing of English words. In addition, for Polish-speaking students I can help translate Polish to English. Finally, for those learning the Polish language I can help students pronounce and converse in Polish.

Tutoring sessions can focus on helping students outline and organize material, write and re-write drafts, and concisely present thoughts. In addition, I can proofread and help students correctly format essays as well as assist them in word choice and tone.

Though my tutoring is focused on helping students become better writers, I can also provide assistance in other subjects. I have tutored algebra through calculus II in high school and college. In addition, I am currently pursuing a PhD in Pharmacology and have taken numerous graduate level Pharmacology courses including Endocrine Pharmacology, Autonomic Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Neuropharmacology, Psychopharmacology, Drug Discovery and Emerging Therapeutics. I have also served as a teaching assistant at the University of Washington for two graduate level pharmacology courses, General Pharmacology I and II (PHCOL 401 and 402 at UW). Finally, I have taken numerous college level Psychology classes ranging from introductory to advanced level courses. I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience which has given me a fundamental understanding of the interplay between biology, brain physiology, and psychology.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I am a college graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a minor in English. Currently, I am a graduate student at University of Washington pursuing a PhD in Pharmacology. I have great organization skills and study tips as well as can help with outlining, proofreading, and editing both college-level and graduate writing. I have received the National Science Foundation GRFP award in 2016 for grant writing.

Pharmacology

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Washington. I have taken numerous graduate level Pharmacology courses including Endocrine Pharmacology, Autonomic Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Neuropharmacology, Psychopharmacology, Drug Discovery and Emerging Therapeutics. I have also served as a teaching assistant at the University of Washington for two graduate level pharmacology courses, General Pharmacology I and II (PHCOL 401 and 402 at UW).

Polish

I am qualified to tutor students in learning the Polish language because I am a native Polish speaker. I grew up in a Polish-speaking household as well as took formal classes for 5 years where I learned to read and write in Polish. I am capable of translating from Polish to English or English to Polish depending on the student's needs.

Study Skills

As a third year graduate student pursuing a PhD, I have developed numerous methods for studying and retaining information. I have been a student for 18 years (12 years total of elementary and secondary education, 4 years of college, and 2 completed years of graduate study). I have excelled both in introductory and advanced courses.
