About Scott

I enjoy teaching and watching a student's face when they "get it". That can be in the office, classroom or on the field. I've been told that I'm good at translating a thought or topic so a person can understand on their own terms. It's always important to me that the student knows and be able to "teach me" what they've just learned. I want my students to be successful!

I focus on Marketing, Advertising and Branding on the business side and coaching in baseball and soccer. My credentials include teaching Advertising and Promotions Graduate level class for three years at City University and a 30+ year professional.

Coaching is something that comes naturally to me as a leader and someone who likes to teach. Sports are meant to be fun, and it is important that the learning is fun.

30+ year advertising and brand strategy professional. Own a small brand strategy & design firm, SDM Marketing. I taught Graduate level Advertising and Promotions class for 3 years at City University.

I've been coaching in one form or another since right after I graduated Business School. I now coach my son's soccer and baseball teams, and I'm on the board of Magnolia Little League.

I started playing soccer when I was 8 and baseball before that. My goal as a coach is not only to teach the game but for all the players to enjoy and understand why they do something on the field.

I'm interested in teaching people who are interested in learning. Feel free to contact me to learn more on my approach and schedule a lesson.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I've been coaching boys little league for the past 5 years, starting with age 5 T-Ball and now coaching 7-9 year-olds in AA. Next year, I'll coach AAA Little League.

I've been coaching off and on for over 30 years, softball and little league. I'm a good teacher of the game and understand that it's about kids enjoying themselves and not taking it too seriously.

Business

I've been in business for over 25 years with a virtual advertising agency that has evolved into a Branding and Design firm. I understand the importance of being organized, focused and having a vision.

I've worked with companies beyond just marketing and provided consulting in running a business. The how too as well as dealing with daily issues. My strength is in marketing a firm but with knowledge on how to run a business and deal with daily workings.

Marketing

I've been in marketing / advertising / branding for over 30 years and have successfully supported clients to make them successful.

I taught a graduate level Advertising and Promotions class at City University for three years. I was a teacher who learned how to be a good teacher over that time. My students appreciated my ability to translate our topics into lives and give it meaning. I enjoy marketing and all that is included.

Soccer

I've started coaching soccer during graduate school. Working with 4th graders and then when I graduated, coaching the JV team during season and summer.

Lately, I've been coaching my son's teams in Magnolia, starting at age 5 (he's now 9).

My goal (no pun intended) in coaching is to teach the game as well as skills. It's important that players understand why they're doing something or how it relates to movement on the field. Key is, I enjoy teaching and listening to the "student" to understand what they're thinking and then relate that to what needs to be accomplished.
