About Patrick

I have years of experience helping international students and adult learners from the immigrant and refugee communities learn English and do the work in ESL and college classes. My students learn, they write, they finish their assignments and they pass their courses with excellent grades. I work face to face or online. If a student needs help with English--writing, speaking, vocabulary or grammar--I know how the language works, and I know how to help the student understand it.

I have worked one on one with students from countries all over the world, and have taught community college classes with students of widely varying abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. I have helped students with hundreds of college papers, talking about their ideas and their research, helping them correctly cite their sources, and helping them make sure their final draft is free of grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes. With my help, they complete their assignments and get good grades. I have also worked with beginners and the basics of pronunciation, grammar, and listening. I have a Master's degree in teaching English, a Bachelor's degree in English, and a perfect score of 800 in the GRE language test, but the reason my tutoring works is that I am able to communicate what I know to students from vastly different backgrounds and cultures, and help them do what it takes to succeed.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a Masters in Teaching English (MA-TESOL), and my BA is in English. I have experience as an academic tutor at the college and as a classroom instructor. I am familiar with the ESL instruction in Seattle, and I often work to help students whom it has left confused.

I am male, and 56 years old.

IELTS

My Masters degree is in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. My studies included IELTS in research I conducted. In addition, I have four years of experience with college academic English and more as an instructor. I am familiar with IELTS materials and with effective test preparation.
