About Erin

With over 10 years of experience working in the private tutoring/writing coach space, I have a proven track record of success with clients from kindergarten to college and beyond. My teaching style is flexible; I adapt my methods to best fit my students' learning styles and goals.

My relevant work history includes time as a literary/technical editor at both trade and academic publishing houses, freelance writing coaching for both students and professionals, providing exam preparation for International Baccalaureate candidates, and tutoring at-risk students in the Los Angeles Family Shelter system.

I have a deep understanding of the mechanics of the English language and have worked as a professional editor for over 10 years. In addition, I have extensive experience tutoring clients from widely varied backgrounds and levels of English competency.

My availability is open - I am able and willing to work with you whenever and wherever needed. Days, weekends, and evenings are all okay with me! I also offer quick turn around time for essay proofreading and editing with a discounted rate.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

My Bachelor's Degree in Medieval Studies required significant course work in classical history. My particular area of emphasis was Roman civil law. Primary source works studied include, Suetonius, Vergil, August Caesar, Cicero, and Justinian.

Elementary (K-6th)

During my tenure as a tutor/volunteer coordinator at the Los Angeles non-profit organization School on Wheels, I tutored numerous K-6th grade students. Lessons included English, Math, Science, general homework help, and study skills/organization.

Study Skills

I believe that my time as volunteer tutor with School on Wheels qualifies me to work with students aiming to improve their study skills. School on Wheels provides tutoring, school supplies, & other educational assistance to thousands of homeless children in Southern California. Tutoring sessions were often dedicated solely to organization of school work and promoting good/regular study habits.

enthusiastic and responsive

This was the first session between Erin and our son, who is in high school. She appears skilled at communicating with teens. Helped him identify strategies for making this a successful year academically. Looking forward to see how it goes.
