My introduction to tutoring began in high school when my SAT tutor first asked me to tutor the SSAT to middle school students. I didn’t think much of it at the time other than a temporary opportunity for work and an extension of studying the SAT. After graduating Garfield H.S. My introduction to tutoring began in high school when my SAT tutor first asked me to tutor the SSAT to middle school students. I didn’t think much of it at the time other than a temporary opportunity for work and an extension of studying the SAT. After graduating Garfield H.S. I attended the University of Washington and took on several part time jobs, including tutoring students at Whitman Middle School as part of the SESO GEAR UP program. I also tutored student athletes in courses I had taken, including business algebra and calculus, as well as microeconomics and macroeconomics.

I Graduated with a B.S. in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in 2009 and worked as a biologist on a number of research projects ranging from Arctic grayling studies in Montana to fish and water quality monitoring for the EPA and Washington Department of Ecology.

For the past two years I’ve been sidelined from repetitive computer work that comes along with being a biologist due to nerve issues in my hands and shoulders. Fortunately, I’ve discovered tutoring to be a viable avenue for volunteering and work. Currently, I volunteer for Catholic Community Services as part of the Youth Tutoring Program and tutor math privately in the Seattle area.

I want people to improve on their ability to learn independently to the extent that they no longer need my help. I offer great flexibility in scheduling and can also provide help via other remote methods such as email or video chat combined with a tablet pen or a document camera. I have used math in professional settings and can provide a number of "real-world" examples or how it can be used.

I enjoy people watching people gain confidence as they work through challenges to understand the concept at hand. It's particularly rewarding when, after needing lots of assistance, they can get through problems independent of any hints or help from me.
