About Glen

I tutor for GRE, GMAT, Math, Writing, Reading, Business, SQL and many other subjects.

Students tell me that I help them to become more successful because I am patient and relatable. As one example, I am a mentor at my alma mater, Seattle University where I listen to the current challenges grad students and find ways to build them up. I collaborated with others in my field to share thoughts on what works and the struggles are and then come up with something new for my students.

In my own experiences from grad school, all the way down to high school, I have a unique perspective. I struggled to get going in elementary school but pulled things together in junior high when I started making the dean’s list and kept my gpa at at a 3.3 or higher all the way through my MBA. I get the struggle. I will identify where you need assistance and by working one on one with you, we find a unique way to make great things happen for you.

After just one or two tutoring sessions, students who don’t believe in themselves or who have low confidence see the light. Why, because I don’t just hold their hand and show them how things are done – you learn nothing that way. I show them they have strengths and how to apply their strengths to school. I want to help you help yourself. I won’t bring you a fish, I will teach you how to fish.

Explaining subjects in a customized way for every student is a simple and fast for someone to learn. For instance, in standardized test preparation, students might panic over time management – I show them way to cope with this, in ways that work for them. Math students have the same panic – so much homework, not enough time or understanding to do it. I find out why they are panicking and respond in a way that neutralizes the worry. You’ll be shown how to cope on your own, find your own mistakes and be a tutor some day as well!

I love it when my students send e-mails for help with papers due in a few hours. It's never too late to create a great paper.

I have an MBA and Computer Science degree.

I am a Program Manager in the software industry, and I have to understand as quick as possible what is needed of me and of others in the room. Panic used to want to make me quit my job, but it doesn’t anymore, because I learned what works for me. We can do the same for you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

Let's work together to get you on the right path. My approach is different with every person I tutor, depending on their needs.

Business subjects can be difficult, but once I know how you learn and where you struggle, I know you'll be on the right path.

I hold an MBA and I have worked as both a project manager and program manager with both have to take into account several aspects of business, like profit, contracts, accounting, finance, ethics, management, etc. I also hold my Project Management Professional and Certified ScrumMaster certifications.

Having worked in software development for over 15 years and with a 4 year degree covering programming, structures and algorithms, I can get you on your way to better coding today!

Before you pay for any tutoring, I do a free intro session I can figure out what you need and you can get a feel for how I work. I will first diagnose what your strengths and weaknesses are, then find ways to improve you in those areas.

Elementary Math

While in college, I took several math classes and had to put in lots of extra hours, even with my own tutors. I learned from the tutors and other helpers where I went wrong and was able to improve my math abilities. Now, I am able to do all the math required in daily and professional life.

General Computer

I have several years of on the job training, decades as a student and many more to come. Let's get you on the right track! We (you and I) can get you confident in Microsoft programs, internet, all the basics and more!

GMAT

I completed the GMAT and was accepted to grad school in 2008, finished and now help others with their testing needs.

Microsoft Excel

I have experience using excel from basic computations and formulas through pivot tables and other advanced features. Luckily, most of what people need to know is pretty easy, and about 10% of the time we need to go into advanced features. I was a Sales Operations Manager and I used this to create everything from Commission Reports down to plain averages and basic computations.

Microsoft Outlook

I've used Outlook in all of my career and have coached others. From filters to out of office, syncing, and using Outlook for efficiency, I am your source.

Microsoft Windows

I've used Windows from elementary school through college and my 15 year career. Where is that file? Why isn't this working? Why can't I hear my music? Why doesn't this file open? I can empower you to find all those answers and more. I've worked at Microsoft and am also familiar with complying with major carrier and OEMs about what the operating system can and can't do.

Reading

I've had a number of tests in my life that tested my reading abilities, including SAT, GMAT, CSM and PMP. All of those tests require a higher than average ability to read well. I know how to target subjects, pick out what the question is asking and how to choose the best answer.

SQL

I've created basic queries, stored procedures and reports and I had to learn it all on my own. Let's not put you through the same struggle I had. The key is to start small, get the basics and build to become a SQL black belt!
