Pitzer College (Sociology)
Seattle Pacific University (Master's)
I have been teaching English as a Second Language for 25 years at Seattle area community colleges as well as in Japan. I have taught all levels of ESL from non-literate English language learners to high-level academic students. I have taught many different courses over the years from basic reading/writing and speaking/listening courses to more specific courses in improving vocabulary and pronunciation. I can teach all levels of grammar, reading comprehension for all levels of variety of genres, basic writing as well as high level essay writing, and public speaking skills.
I could also help native English speakers with reading and writing. I am a mother of two young children (11 and 7), so I feel comfortable teaching children how to read and write. I would be capable of helping high school students with their reading and writing homework, as well.
I am a Seattle native that lives in Northeast Seattle. I taught in Japan from 1992-1995 and have traveled to many foreign countries over the years. I speak Japanese and can function in Spanish, but I have also studied French and Italian.
My students enjoy my classes because I am fun and engaging, and I have a love of languages and helping people reach their educational goals.

Group (2+ students) lessons are $90/hour, and $85 for each consecutive hour thereafter. I also charge for travel time depending on distance, traffic, parking fees etc.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
