I love helping students of all ages get the best possible prints from their digital files! From learning principles of photography to using layers and masks with Photoshop, I can get you started with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. In addition to working with professional photographers, I’ve taught traditional and digital processing to students at the college level.
Since the stay-at-home orders were initiated in March of 2020, I tutor 100% online. Using the Wyzant classroom we can converse, look at one or the others screens, and share a whiteboard. Using Zoom I can gain control of your computer to demonstrate use of either software. I use the most current subscription based versions of Adobe Lightroom Classic (LrC) and Photoshop that work with my iMac. If you use an older version of Photoshop, or use PC’s, I can still demonstrate on your computer using the software you are familiar with.
I am not an expert using the current mobile version of Lightroom (LR), but I do have it installed on my iPad. I synch some LrC collections with LR Mobile, and use LR mobile for simple editing. I cannot guarantee I will be able to answer all questions about online uploading and sharing of photos.
Organization of your digital files is important. I am happy to make recommendations for storage and backup, and share my own system of organization. However, I expect students to have a folder hierarchy and storage (with backup) set up before we begin so that we can focus on processing digital work, rather than locating it!
Printing for professional photographers over the years, in the darkroom and using digital printers, I've learned how to get the best print from a negative or digital file. I can help you master photographic concepts like exposure, color theory and sharpness, while helping you gain confidence with the myriad of digital tools available for editing.

Adobe Lightroom,

Adobe Lightroom

I've been using Adobe Lightroom since version 1 came out. My expertise is Certified by Adobe, and I have experience teaching Lightroom to individuals and small groups. My Lightroom catalog has over 20,000 images in it and I can find each and every one of them. I regularly work with a professional photographer in Seattle managing her catalog of more than 50,000 files.
Adobe Photoshop,

Adobe Photoshop

I'm a "Certified Expert" in both Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. My career has involved retouching and preparing digital files for professional photographers and their clients. In the last six years I've added tutoring to my repertoire. While everyone is a photographer in the digital age, not everyone understands the myriad ways Photoshop can help improve images. My goal is to make sure my students can improve their images, while keeping track of them!
Photography

Photography

I have worked for numerous commercial, portrait and fine art photographers during my career as a custom black and white printer and a digital technician. I'm also a photographer in my own right, making portraits and fine art photographs. My Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from Oregon State University combined Photography and Psychology. For over five years I've tutored individuals and taught classes at the Art Institute of Seattle and the Photographic Center Northwest.

Patient and expert tutor

Gail was knowledgeable and patient with teaching me editing tools I'd forgotten about on Lightroom CC and even simple features for collections. I look forward to moving onto Photoshop next.

Alison, 1 lesson with Gail

Knowledgeable and patient teacher.

Gail successfully walked me through the process of setting up two separate hard drives (both main drive and backup) and helped me transfer over 25,000 images from my failing drive. She also introduced me to the Chronosync software for copying files safely and reliably. While doing this, she patiently answered many questions that I had about Adobe Lightroom Classic. I very much enjoyed working with her and will do so again when I have Lightroom and/or file storage issues.

Second Session Even Better Than the First!

Gail is a wonderful combination of patient and knowledgeable. Whereas other tutors will talk AT you, Gail speaks WITH you. She listens to what YOU want to learn and makes sure she addresses those needs. She also addresses what you DON'T know and helps you to gain skills related to the subject. She is respectful of where you're starting and where you want to go. I highly recommend, Gail. And believe me, I don't highly recommend just anyone!

Invaluable & patient assistance provided.

Gail took on the task of sorting, deleting and setting up the file structure for my 30,000+ images in multiple Lightroom catalogs spread across 3 separate computers, both PC and Mac. She then transferred the images to a Synology NAS system. Our first session was conducted in my home, after which we both agreed that it would be safer to conduct future sessions online given the ongoing 2020 COVID-19 virus, and she seamlessly segued into conducting sessions over the internet. With the patience of a saint she tackled the challenge in a careful and methodical manner with utmost respect and care for the value of every single image to me. She also provided methodical instruction on how I should manage my catalog (e.g. importing, exporting from various sources). I will continue to seek her assistance until I have a firm grip on Lightroom. In her quiet, friendly manner I found hope and relief for organized access to my Lightroom catalog.

Great lesson

Gail is very knowledgeable and patient, she walked me through solutions to all the issues I was having and now I feel more confident working in Photoshop. Highly recommend!

Excellent Tutor

Gail was not only an excellent tutor for Lightroom but she was also very helpful in directing me how to set up my computer for the tutoring session. I did not know how to connect a microphone or open the links that were necessary for the session, but she was very nice about explaining what needed to be done and how to do it. She is highly trained on Lightroom, but was very good about explaining the program to me in terms that I understood. I highly recommend her as a tutor.

Susan, 1 lesson with Gail

Super helpful

Gail spent an hour with me and oriented me to Lightroom Classic, helping me set up a file structure on my computer and several key settings that allowed me to then independently build the catalog from pictures on my phone, my camera and ones already on my hard drive. Really worthwhile!

Rebecca, 1 lesson with Gail

Photoshop/ Lightroom Expert

Gail helped me solve for a project even she had never saw before. But she got it figured out! Nice lady too! She also helped me with my new camera. She has a wide range of knowledge.

Marc, 1 lesson with Gail

Knowledgeable and patient

Gail was very reassuring as she tackled the huge task of restoring thousands of images to my Lightroom. She was very skilled at correcting all the subsequent technical issues. I’m so thankful for all her help.
