About Maggie

Hey there. I'm Maggie, and I am an academic tutor. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Williams College in 2009. Following college, I pursued classroom teaching. For over 5 years, I worked with both Special Needs and Math students in New York City public schools. My students ranged from 5th graders to high school seniors. During this tenure, I also earned a Masters of Science in Teaching from Pace University in NYC. Currently, I live in Seattle, WA where I continue to teach middle and high school students at a private school across various Math disciplines: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

My passion for learning and serving others has driven my teaching experience. I know that students often need individualized attention to achieve success in their studies. Additionally, as a graduate of one of the top colleges in the country, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. I truly believe that every person can achieve their goals (academic or otherwise!), and I have found great pleasure in watching my students discover this truth.

I encourage you to contact me to learn more and schedule lessons. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to meet your learning goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Math is my strongest subject. In addition to obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Math from one of the top colleges in the country, I taught 9th grade Algebra in NYC public schools, and I've tutored students in Algebra for almost 8 years.

Algebra 2

My skills in Math are outstanding. I majored in Mathematics and Statistics as an undergrad and following college I taught Math to high school students. Currently, I tutor high school students and adults in all levels of Math, PreAlgebra and up.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have a New York State Professional Teaching Certificate for Children with Disabilities. I have cared for students with autism for over 14 years. I was a lead teacher for a class of autistic students for over 5 years. I am also formally trained in ABA and TEACCH, two methods for instructing students with autism.

Prealgebra

My Math skills are outstanding. Not only did I obtain a degree in Math from one of the top colleges in the country, but I also have experience teaching Math as a classroom teacher. I understand how to demonstrate the important concepts to learners and how to provide appropriate and individualized support as needed.

Special Needs

I have a Masters of Science for Teaching in Childhood Education with an emphasis on Students with Disabilities, as well as a New York State Professional Teaching Certificate for Children with Disabilities.
For over 5 years, I've worked as a classroom teacher for students with special needs, and I have also received formal training from the NYC Department of Education. The training included specific methods for adapting instructional content to meet the individualized needs of differently-abled students.
