About Jill

I can think of no work more important or rewarding than teaching. Children need to be guided, motivated, and believed in. As an Instructional Assistant for the last 15 years, I have had the pleasure of providing students with the tools that help them achieve academic, social and emotional success. My work with Sound Partners Tutoring, and Seattle Public Schools has given me experience in working with students with a wide variety of learning needs.

Whether working on basic phonics, acquiring stronger fluency in reading, or mastering the art of conquering story problems in math, I enjoy assisting students in building confidence, setting and achieving goals, and working together to help each student see their own potential.

My training in Sound Partners Reading Program, Reading Street, and Imagination Learning have given me skills that I have successfully applied in a variety of classroom and tutoring environments. I have worked with small groups in general and special education, assisting students in mastering the skills necessary to be successful readers and writers.

I have worked with students in general and special education classes using Math in Focus, Everyday Math, and Math IXL. I enjoy helping students improve their grades in math, and build confidence in order to be successful.

My time with Sound Partners Reading makes me uniquely qualified in the area of phonics. Sound Partners is a phonics based reading program that produces amazing results in helping students learn to read. My work with their program, as well as Imagination Learning has allowed me to help students learn to read with confidence, and become lifelong readers.

I am dedicated to helping children succeed. I am flexible, set goals, and assess progress periodically to ensure goal are being met. I look forward to hearing from you, and helping you achieve your goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I have tutored students in phonics for over 15 years. I worked for Sound Partners, a non-profit, phonics-based tutoring company. I have also been trained in Reading Street and Imagine Learning programs, both use phonics based materials to help early readers achieve success. I have worked for Seattle Public Schools, and before that, Edmonds Public Schools, using a phonics-based curriculum to assist students in becoming confident, capable readers.

Study Skills

As an Instructional Assistant in Seattle Schools for the past 15 years, I have assisted students in study skills and helping them get organized. I assist students in setting goals, developing a schedule, organizing materials, and gaining confidence in subject areas in which they struggle. I work closely with parents and teachers to collaborate in order to insure student success. I truly enjoy helping students gain confidence and feel successful.
