About Hollie

I have been tutoring for 5 years, a college professor for 10 years and teaching in Washington school districts for the past several months. I tutor a variety of students from elementary school, high school honors and college students.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballroom Dancing

I have taken ballroom and tango classes for years. I taught college level ballroom dance classes at both the community college and state college levels. I taught both ballroom I and ballroom II. These classes included salsa, tango, foxtrot, chacha, swing and more.

Business

I have taught, as a college professor, business classes for over 7 years. In addition I currently tutor 3 business students at local Universities.

Career Development

I have mentored students at the community college level in career development. I have taught classes on career development as well. In this class I taught students to write resumes, cover letters, essays, and practice interview best practices.

College Counseling

I was a college counselor at the community college and state college level for several years. In addition I was a professor of SLS which taught students how to navigate through college including financial aid, scheduling classes, balancing school & work. I also helped students align classes with the requirements of transferring to other institutions. In addition I worked as and assistant dean and worked with students to have successful relationships with their professors and other students.

Common Core

I currently teach as a substitute in Kent school district and am familiar with common core standards. In addition I originate from Florida and have developed college teaching curriculum to align future teachers with the skills and knowledge to teach common core.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently a substitute teacher in Kent school district in Washington for k-12. I specialize in k-6 as well as students with special needs. I relate very well to autistic students.

ESL/ESOL

College professor that taught level 5-8 ESOL. Had highest success rate for student to pass and level up.

Microsoft Outlook

I have worked several jobs that required expert use of Outlook. In addition as an administrator, I had to use various tools to set up meetings, calendars, events, etc. I have also taught classes to on-boarding staff on how to operate Outlook.

Piano

My associate's degree is in music with a focus of voice and piano. I have taken piano lessons from the age of 3 and taught voice and piano at the community college.

Political Science

I have a bachelors degree in political science and a MBA/MPA. I have taught polisci and government classes at the associate level. It is my favorite area to teach. My forte is constitution and Supreme Court Cases.

Public Speaking

I have taught public speaking in college for 5 years. I incorporated strategies for presentations and oral reports in my college success courses. In addition I taught citizenship classes where I taught students how to interview, answer oral questions and give detailed presentations of historical governmental and personal information.

I currently tutor 2 students in public speaking at the college level and I am tutoring a student on the public speaking aspect of her dissertation.

Special Needs

I currently tutor special needs students in ADHD, on the spectrum, dyslexia, and other learning disabilities. I also teach students with special needs at the local school district. The age levels range from elementary school up to college level. I also have taught student life skills and strategies on the college level for 10 years, as a college professor where I taught specialized classes for students with leaning disabilities. In addition, I have a learning disability myself. Having struggled to overcome obstacles. I have a unique perspective and techniques that help students find alternative ways to absorb information.

Study Skills

Swimming

I am a former lifeguard and taught swim lessons at the YMCA. I have also given individual swim lessons to current student I teach in other subjects. I have had CPR and first aid training.

Voice (Music)

My AA degree is in Voice/music from, Florida State college at Jacksonville. I have been giving private voice lessons for about 15 years.

Writing

I am a former college professor and have taught and tutor writing to a myriad of students on different levels. I enjoy motivating students and helping them take their skills to learn to write in an efficient way.
