Washington University St.Louis (Art History, TESL)
My positive outlook and fulfilling experience with teaching and tutoring students in the area of English and Language Arts, have brought me great success in this field, for the past twenty years. Both my undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, and my certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language make me highly qualified to teach and tutor in this field. I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of students over the years, to improve their English skills, both academically as well as socially with great results.
I specialize in tutoring ESL, English, Language Arts and Social Studies. I have tutored students, 4th grade through high school as well as adults.
My ability to quickly assess the needs of each particular student and tailor lessons based on this assessment has been a great asset to my goal of making the most out of each tutoring session. I have received positive feedback from teachers, parents and students and have been fortunate to see my students achieve great success in school and onward to university settings.
I have spent fourteen years working with students in the Mercer Island School District, as well as two years with the Bellevue School District. Both these schools systems hold a very high reputation and their students attend highly ranked colleges and universities. I have also worked through 2 tutoring academies.
It has always been my personal goal to make each ELL student feel comfortable enough to develop good communication skills. In addition to helping students with school homework, I assign homework in order to further their subject skills. I also provide periodic assessments and progress reports.
I am available for tutoring most days from 9am to 8pm and can travel to students or meet online as well. My base rate is $55/hour for in-person lessons and $35/hour for online lessons. Please contact me for more details!

Madeleine has worked with my 7th grade son a few times and his grades have already improved from his efforts. She knows how to fulfill missing gaps and gives minimal assignments to supplement what he needs to know. He has a much better attitude and outlook on school now! She's been patient, supportive, very communicative with the parents, and consistent.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach grammar because I have extensive experience tutoring students in this area of English. I have successfully worked with English Language Learners of all levels, as well as native speakers. I enjoy this aspect of linguistics.
