About Divya

Young children learn from everything they do. They are naturally curious; they want to explore and discover. If their explorations bring pleasure or success, they will want to learn more. During these early years, children form attitudes about learning that will last a lifetime. I believe that children who receive the right sort of support and encouragement during these years will be creative, adventurous learners throughout their lives.

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. I love giving back and helping students see their grades and test scores improve while tapping into their true potential. I specialize in tutoring math (from elementary to SAT math), chemistry (basic to AP), biology (basic to AP), and English (writing and proofreading). I have been a tutor for over 3 years, so I know how to cater to different needs and all levels on the educational spectrum. Along with my students, I tailor tutoring curriculum over the duration of the introductory sessions. I believe it is always good to have a plan and track progress; it is rewarding for both the student and the tutor to see how far the student has advanced. My background in teaching is not purely academic, I have experience teaching martial arts, music lessons (sight reading, violin), and physical training experience. I try to make my sessions as hands on as possible, and I really take pride in making my students critical thinkers. I strive to help students develop effective techniques to transform them into scientifically literate and worldly, well-rounded people.

I hold myself to a high standard. For that reason, I often ask for feedback and I never bill for a lesson in which the student or parent is not completely satisfied with my tutoring. I try to be flexible with time, but I do ask that clients abide by a 24-hour cancellation policy. I am more than willing to reschedule. To ensure a comfortable and quiet study space, I usually meet my students at the closest public library to them or at a reasonable location of their choice.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

I am currently a college student. I've been making the dean's list quarterly for 3 years, I am an honors student, and I have been tutoring a wide range of students for over 4.5 years. I have completed university general chemistry and organic chemistry series and I have access to textbooks and worksheets. I also have access to my own simplified flash cards and notes. I have experience proofreading papers and teaching students reading comprehension tips from SAT experience. Pre Algebra/Algebra is my forte: I have 7 years of tutoring experience in this field-I teach via benchmarks, practice problems and examples, homework, and I quiz frequently.
