Do you have learning disabilities or just have trouble understanding math or science concepts? Are you worried about how this will affect your chances of graduating or getting into college?
Besides being necessary to graduate from high school, good math and science skills can help you expand your job opportunities once you enter the job market.
I can assess your current level of understanding, focus on any weak areas, help you improve your grades, and give you the best shot at achieving your goals. I also review IEPs to make sure that students are meeting their plan goals.
I'm a retired Professional Engineer with 30 years of experience applying math and science on the job. I helped my customers understand the technical parts of their projects, so I’ve been teaching math and science my whole career. These days, I do one-on-one and group tutoring in the subjects I know best.
If you want to boost your grades or get ready for college, give me a call. Do you have learning disabilities or just have trouble understanding math or science concepts? Are you worried about how this will affect your chances of graduating or getting into college?
Besides being necessary to graduate
I know only one teacher I have met in many years that is Gene 's equal in teaching/tutoring talent. That should indicate the regard I have for Gene. He excels in his ability to relate, his ability to diagnose learning barriers, and his level of knowledge. Mr. Gene brings a calm demeanor and a calming voice that immediately allows the student to get over initial anxiety about the tutor and the subject. Then he builds on that connection with a balance of serious focus and moments of humor.
Besides his excellent ability to relate, Mr. Gene possesses both outstanding knowledge and the ability to allow the student access to it. He can assess where the student is stumbling and then methodically (not belaboring, but just clearly, step by step) explains what the student is being asked to do and how the student can tackle that and respond. Another helpful aspect is how Mr. Gene builds skill by asking the student how a particular math problem resembles any others so that the student can step back, analyze the problem, and apply similar solution strategies. Although my son hardly sits still for anything or anyone, he can work with steady concentration with Mr. Gene easily for one hour, even 1.5 and up to 2 hours. I have the highest regard for this tutor.
Thank you, Shirley. I am happy to "go where parents fear to tread" and work with very challenging students. Your son has been a pleasure to work with.
Gene has been very helpful with our ADD 8th grader student (very bright female) who has developed a math block this year. He is patient and knows how to connect with our teenager to get her through with decent grades so far.
Thanks for the kind comment, Bob. I enjoy working with your daughter and her particular challenges. I'm so glad that her grades are improving, too.
Gene has been a great find for us. We were hoping to find someone who could help our daughter with both organizational skills and Spanish, and Gene more than fit the bill! It seemed that no matter what emerged, Gene had the skills (including Chemistry, Precalculus --even a new instrument she picked up)!
He has proven to be patient, easy going, and flexible. We are grateful.
Very good tutor — I really enjoyed my sessions. Whatever your level of understanding is, he will work with you until you get it. For sure, I'll contact him again.
We have used Gene for math and science tutoring and found him to be very effective. We would highly recommend him to other families. Thank you Gene!
Thanks for the kind words, Stan. I think that your son and I connect fairly well. Looking forward to seeing you all again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned my Masters in Business Administration degree (International Executive MBA) from Georgetown University in 1997. The areas covered included business law, accounting, finance, marketing, decision-making tools, competitive strategy, operations/information management, leadership/power/ethics, and global business environment. I learned entrepreneurial skills from operating my own businesses over the past seven years.
I possess an MBA from Georgetown University. The curriculum included a strong marketing component with an international focus. My 25 year career as an engineer and technical consultant has required me to identify and pursue new market opportunities to grow my employers' companies and, currently, my sole proprietorship.
I am a registered Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and 25 years of experience in the field. Every position I have held during my career has involved training junior engineers/interns, delivering seminars/educational sessions to clients, or both.
I have taken several Praxis Tests and have done very well on all of them. My scores highly qualify me to teach all of the math and science curricula at the middle school and high school levels. My scores are as follows:
Praxis 1: 550/570
MS Science: 198/200
MS Math: 195/200
HS Math: 178/200
HS Chemistry: 177/200
HS Physics: 179/200 (awarded ETS Recognition of Excellence certificate).
