About Steven

I am currently working as an R&D Propulsion engineer at Space Systems Loral supporting the design and manufacture of a next-generation propulsion system.

I've graduated from USC with an M.S. in Astronautical Engineering and living my dream of being a rocket scientist. I previously graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering. I want to be known as a great engineer that helped mankind in some small but meaningful way. My greatest passion is to build a spacecraft to take humanity to the stars.

I love to tutor math and science to people in hopes of aspiring them to join me in engineering! I would like to create more awareness and passion for all STEM fields. I like to explain the how and why behind a subject so that they can understand the problem from a very fundamental point of view.

My expertise in tutoring have been in the ability to help students that have problems with focus and motivation to learn the subject. I have taught many students with disciplinary problems as well and have helped them patiently go through step by step with their questions.

Feedback and progress reports are essential to having a great learning experience and I am committed to offering my students accurate assessments. With a positive attitude and a wiliness to learn, no subject is too difficult to understand. I hope to be helping you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I went to USC for Astronautical Engineering and now work at Aerojet-Rocketdyne as a propulsion engineer. I have gotten to this position due to my extensive knowledge of Algebra 1. I have taught math off and on for the past 2 years.

Algebra 2

I have taken algebra 2 and higher advanced math courses for a number of years since college use algebra 2 concepts routinely in my job as a engineer. I teach students to think through their own problems and only help them if I think they are going off course.

Astronomy

I have an innate passion for space sciences and I am wholly qualified to teach astronomy to high school and intro college classes on the basic concepts space. I spend my time reading and learn about astronomy to better prepare me for my current job.

Elementary Science

In addition to my passion for teaching science, I love to introduce kids/people to science for the first time. Since I am in a scientific field, I teach concepts that directly apply to life and what engineers do on a daily basis. I teach fundamentals as well as show real world examples of how it applies.

Geometry

Knowledge of geometry is critically important in my field of engineering. If there are slight miscalculations then hundreds of thousands of dollars are wasted. I have refined my geometry understanding over the past year as I have tutored multiple students in basic and advanced concepts.

Microsoft Excel

I have used excel regularly in my job daily, nearly all the work that I have done besides Matlab has been done on excel. I have used excel for more than 10 years dating back to early college. It is one of the most important tools that I have ever used. I have also written and modified several macros on excel to help with people who need a more advanced understanding.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been working at a company in Palo Alto for two years. I have extensively used Outlook for our email and calender system. I can teach people how to use different functions that relate to Outlook as well as being able to troubleshoot problems.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have used Microsoft powerpoint throughout my career, putting together many presentations to my bosses, customers, as well as documentation of work. I am wholly qualified to teach people on the use of Microsoft powerpoint.

Physics

I have used physics in my job as an engineer daily, as my job requires many basic/advanced level of understanding. I have also tutored many students in physics prior to me working at Wyzant to keep my base knowledge fresh for my job. It is very important that my physics understanding is complete for my career.

Prealgebra

I have gone over the concepts of prealgebra many times in my life and it helped me build the basis of my career in engineering. I am am to teach students in prealgebra because there is not a day that goes by with me using it in real life. I have prealgebra many times to students and peers throughout my life.

Precalculus

Precalculus was critical in getting an engineering degree in my B.S. I have thoroughly learned the concepts to be able to teach the skills necessary to learn calculus and beyond. I have also taught students what to look for so that I can further prepare them for potential difficulties in Calculus.

Study Skills

I have a Master's degree in Astronautical Engineering and have spent 6 years in school to obtain the degree. I have also worked as a lab assistant at Caltech for 3 years. I have been able to find success in my career because of my ability to have good study skills. I would like to share my knowledge so that others can obtain their dream goals by having great study skills.

Trigonometry

Like many other high school math subjects, I have used trigonometry and other related math skills many times in my life and have furthered my career because of it. Trigonometry is a very important part of an engineers tool set as mastery of triangles and circles are fundamental in solving real world problems. All engineering problems can be broken down to problems of algebra and trigonometry.

Very patient and explains well — My son had the first tutoring session last week and Steven was very patient and explained very well so my son could understand geometry. He took the retake the next day and the score was really good. As a teenager, he does not say much, but I am sure that he was excited to understand the concept! Thank you very much Steven. ...
