About Nicholas

Hello! My name is Nick S. and I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Classical History in 2011.

I have experience as a teaching assistant in Formal Logic in undergraduate and training data specialists for Google.

My focus in tutoring is on crafting essays, with an emphasis on developing thesis statements and argumentative structure. I also teach students how to analyze passages in literature and poetry to determine the intent of the writer.

My specialty is helping students develop a skill set to analyze and dissect a given passage or poem within a given time limit, the kind of writing test employed by the AP Language and AP Literature tests.

I'm able to help students with existing coursework or can bring my own material to help students develop their writing skills outside of class. I look forward to working with your students!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Puget Sound in Classics. I was named Distinguished Senior in the Classics Department my senior year. My focus was on Ancient Greek literature, history, and philosophy. I have translated sections of Plato's Symposium and Xenophon's Anabasis.
