I am a graduate student in Biomedical engineering at the University of Utah. I love teaching, and gain great enjoyment from doing so. I have a Bachelor's degree in Math and believe that I can proficiently tutor that subject. I am also a native French speaker and can tutor that subject as well. I am 26 yrs old, and have traveled around the world a lot. I was born in Brussel (Belgium), then lived in France, Cameroon, Niger, Wichita (KS), Salt Lake City (UT), Chicago (IL), and now back to Salt lake city. Throughout my travels, I have acquired great interpersonal skills and developed my love for learning and teaching.
My teaching style is simple, I focus on the student's need. I believe every human being is very intelligent, but we differ in learning style and speed. By focusing on the student, I am able to tap into his style and speed of learning and adjust the material to make it easier for him to learn. I have some prior tutoring experience mostly with younger students (15 yrs old, 12 yrs old, 8 yrs old, 3 yrs old), but I would also love to tutor young adults and older people. Lastly, as my profile title indicates, I am very reliable, I own a dependable car and I am time conscientious. I am also professional, and understand the importance of tutoring in the learning process. I am a graduate student in Biomedical engineering at the University of Utah. Howard is serious about tutoring. He is on-time and gets my son straight to work. But most importantly he is able to make the concepts understandable. These are actual words from my 17 year old "I learn more with Howard in one hour than I do in a month of school." That is the sign of a good tutor!
Howard is a truly excellent tutor. He has built confidence in my daughter, and she has improved her grade and understanding since working with Howard.
Howard worked with my nephew who struggles with arithmetic and algebra. His approach to teaching was easier for my nephew to grasp. Also, my nephew remarked that he was able to tell that Howard really loves what he does, and cares about those he teaches. Thank you, Howard!
Howard is very professional, proficient tutor! My son is actually understanding the basics fundamentals of algebra. Thank you for your help.
Howard is a great tutor, my daughter really enjoys her sessions. Her grades have started to improve after just a few sessions and so has her confidence.
Howard is very patient and effective in working with my son. Here is my son's review of Howard in his own words -- Howard is a great tutor because he explains concepts in a way I am able to understand, which many of my teachers have been unable to do. He is very patient and makes sure I understand the concepts before we go on. I have had a few tutors and no one has been able to help me the way he has.
I know that if I am having a problem understanding something in any of my math classes I can set up an appointment with Howard and he will help me with my weaknesses and give me the confidence I need to take the tests.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a bachelor's degree in math, and have taken math classes up to Calculus 3, differential equations, and linear algebra. I am also currently helping my brother go through his Algebra 2 class so I am up to date with the material.
I have a Bachelor degree in computer engineering.
I am from a soccer loving nation, and have been playing soccer for over 25 years. I would love to transmit my love for the sport to youth and adult, and see soccer develop as a discipline here in the USA.
