I am a graduate student at the University of Washington. I use computational modeling to help conduct biological research. I graduated from Vanderbilt University with majors in Secondary Education and Molecular and Cellular Biology. I plan on becoming a middle/high school or a college science teacher after receiving my PhD in biology. I have lots of experience working through difficult math and science courses and know how to help others succeed in these subjects.

My passion for science and math developed in middle school, and I cultivated my interest in these subjects in the following years. In high school at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), I took advanced math and science courses including multivariable calculus, microbiology and disease, molecular and cellular biology, a seminar in stem cell biology, and advanced chemistry. I really enjoyed tutoring my peers in high school and began tutoring more.

I've continued my advanced coursework at Vanderbilt University with inorganic and organic chemistry, advanced molecular genetics, and cell biology. In Vanderbilt's secondary education program, I gained experience from observations of and student teaching in middle and high school science classes. I maintained a 3.63 GPA at Vanderbilt University.

At Vanderbilt University, I conducted research in yeast genetics investigating the use of a CRISPR system to induce DNA double-stranded breaks in the yeast genome to investigate how telomeres were sometimes added to DNA double-stranded breaks as a repair mechanism. At the University of Washington, I have studied how Tie2 receptors cluster together and affect intracellular signaling, how protein scaffolds affect recruited protein reaction rates, how to introduce a growth-controlling switch into yeast, and how protein expression is regulated. I enjoy using computers to model biological processes in order to learn what experiments might be smart to perform.

I have tutored students in SAT math/science, ACT math/science, biology, chemistry, physics, algebr

I have excellent time management and study skills since I have managed to keep up a variety of activities during my high school career while still maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I played soccer, swam, ran track, played violin, and tutored throughout the school year while still doing well in all of my classes. I perform very well on tests since I know have to study for them effectively. I use whiteboards, note-cards, and study partners all to study effectively.

Rockstar! Highly recommend!!!

Ty was soooo amazing with my daughter. She’s in 7th grade in an advanced math class and she was struggling a bit, with percentages especially. Ty was very patient with her, helped her understand and she felt so much more confident that she finally understood percentages, only after one session.Ty gave my daughter some problems to work on and send back to him so he could see how she was doing. Gave her feedback where needed. Ty is very patient and extremely flexible. When the kids are already overwhelmed during the week with everything, Ty was available on the weekend to tutor my daughter. Which was very nice. Would highly recommend and we already have our second session set up! Thanks again Ty!

Ty is very knowledgeable!!

Ty is fantastic! He tutors my daughter in Algebra 2. She says Ty is knowledgeable and guides her through solving problems. I plan on continuing tutoring services with Ty for my daughter. She mentions that he is patient, encouraging and helpful. If you are looking for someone that will take into consideration your child's learning style and level of abilities, you would need to look no further. I highly recommend Ty. Ty's patience, knowledge and effective interaction with the student will deliver results.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

She explained a concept in 20 minutes that my daughter's teacher was unable to explain in 4 weeks. She helped her with Chemistry and Math. She help break down problems step by step in a way that made it easier to understand. I would recommend her. In one session, I could see my daughter feels more hopeful now.

Productive calc session w Ty

My 17-year-old son is having a hard time in calculus this semester. He met with Ty for almost 2 hours and came home feeling upbeat. Ty is patient and explains things well. He uses many examples to illustrate challenging concepts. My son has had other tutors before but he said he was most productive with Ty. Thanks Ty.
