About Joy

Greetings, my name is Joy and I am a recent transplant to Seattle. I recently moved here from living abroad in South Korea for five years. I have taught English to mostly elementary aged students but would like to teach adults. I take into consideration your skills and abilities when tutoring and make sure the experience is worthwhile.

I want to make sure you get the best and also grow in your English language abilities. I am available most days of the week, and weekends. I have a car so I am able to get to you easily.

I look forward to tutoring!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

Experience teaching writing to ESL students for 2 years.

Reading

Teaching reading skills to young adults and adults for the past seven years.

Study Skills

I am qualified to teach study skills because I was an excellent student throughout my undergrad and graduate education. I kept up a 4.0 average throughout my college history by being organized and knowing how to study for tests and essays. These days I am qualified to teach study skills because I have been teaching English to college age students in my local area for the past year. I believe I am highly qualified for this aspect of tutoring due to my educational background and current line of work, which includes tutoring.

Writing

I've been teaching college level writing for about two years now.
