About George

I am an experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. First, I have the proper qualifications. I have an M.A. in English with a specialization in English as a second language from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. Second, I have years of experience teaching English to foreign students. I have taught students in a junior college here in The United States and university students in the Middle East. I have also taught college students both ESL and American Literature in Malaysia.

As regards my experience, I have taught the four basic skills of language learning, i.e., reading, writing, listening and speaking from a basic level to an advanced level. I have taught general and conversational English, as well as English for academic purposes (Engineering, Business, Law and Science). I have a great deal of experience teaching technical English, and I have written a lot of scientific English teaching material.

In addition to teaching English to non-native speakers, I have worked with American English speakers who need help with their English in order to pass the GED exam.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
