Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring Math from algebra, precalculus through calculus) at Shoreline Community College for 8 years and now I am at Edmonds Community College since Fall 2016 until this quarter. I also received a 3.7 in Calculus 2 just a year ago at the Community college and have taken Calculus 3 Fall 2016. I received a Fellowship in 2013 to develop math curriculum and write articles about it for Wellesley College for Afterschool Tutoring Programs. I enjoy helping students come to deeply grasp math concepts and learn to apply them in problems in school and real world circumstances.

Algebra 2

I have tutored Algebra 2 at the community college level for 9 years. I also received a grant from Wellsley College for curriculum development in 2013 . I enjoy doing and teaching math and thus hope to make you both improve your skills, test scores and confidence to tackle math

College Counseling

As I was a college counselor for a third of my time as a 33 year high school teacher in a Seattle public alternative high school, I have much experience helping students select colleges, edit essays for application, prepare for the SAT, ACT exams, search out, and write scholarships. I also guided families in filling out FAFSA forms, and personally I wrote numerous college and scholarship recommendations.

As a current tutor in math at Shoreline Community College and also a certified Washington State STARS trainer from 2012-2015 with a specialty in math, I feel more than competent to tutor k-6th math. I also have been a recipient of NIOST Fellowship from Wellesley College this past year 2012-2013 with a focus on teaching math using Howard Gardner's famework of 8 intelligences. i also have extensively tutored privately elementary math students.

Elementary Math

I have worked with K'5 grade students for 2 years at a King county Housing projec where I be came inspired to develop curriculum that would help engage these young students in math based on Harvard professor Howard Gardner's 8 intelligences. I received a Wellesley College Fellowship in 2013 to write on my research and then went on to be come a coach for Washington afterschool programs to help infuse their programs with fun math activities. I then became a Certified Washington State Math Specialist for Afterschool Programs for elementary students. I also returned to college to do more advanced math courses where I also tutor at the community colleges of Shoreline and Edmonds to help students improve their math skills. I have also for the past 8 years had private students that I tutor in math . ( ia ma retired Washington certified teacher and have worked in Seattle public schools in an alternative program for over 30 years.)

Flute

I have been studying flute since I was in high school with the first flutist of the New York City Ballet, Andrew Lolya and I have also studied in Paris at the Consevatoire de Musique. I won a first place in the New York State Music competition in high school for a chamber music ensemble i was in and have played in smaller chamber groups around Boston and Seattle since college.

I also am presently the Seattle coordinator for a high school French student summer exchange program ORCA (Organisation des Sejours Linguistiques et culturels) which I have done since 2003.

GRE

I have taken the GRE and have helped my son prepare for this exam as he decided to go to journalism school at Columbia University just 2 years ago. I have also helped prepare many high school students to take the SAT tests and in particular the quantitative part.
