About Kristian

Hello,

My name is Kristian, and I'd like to use the academic knowledge I've accumulated to help others succeed.

I'm a Civil Engineering major at the University of Washington, with a great understanding of many fundamental math, science, and engineering concepts. I've worked together with other students in the Math Learning Center at North Seattle Community College, helping them understand and complete homework problems.

I think the best way to communicate my knowledge with others is to use simple examples, and have students complete slightly more difficult problems, with my help. I can address very specific questions, which are the kind I used to have. In my opinion, working with another is the best way to fully grasp the material taught in most advanced Math and Engineering courses.

If you or someone you know needs help, let me know!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 topics include: solving and graphing linear equations, basic operations with algebraic expressions, polynomials, exponents, and applications of all of the above.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 covers all the material from Algebra 1 but more in depth, along with graphing and solving quadratic equations; and rational, and radical expressions and equations.

Geometry

Geometry topics include calculating perimeter and area of basic shapes, the properties of different types of triangles, the Pythagorean theorem, transformations and coordinate geometry.

Linear Algebra

I have taken multiple Linear Algebra courses, and I've helped other students with their work. I understand the core concepts: Representing systems of linear equations with a coefficient or augmented matrix; solving these matrices using elementary row operations; matrix operations, such as addition, multiplication, and transposition; inverting matrices; homogeneous systems; the properties of determinants; linear dependence and independence of equations, and how to test for these; vector spaces and subspaces, and how to transform vectors from one space to another, including isomorphism; how to find a basis or multiple bases for a vector space; how to calculate eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and eigenspace. I also understand how all of these concepts relate to the real world, especially arrays used in computer programming.

Extremely effective tutor. Highly recommended. — Really helped our son turn it around in geometry over this last semester. Went from a D to a probable B or higher it appears. Always on time and flexible with last minute schedule changes as well. Couldn't have been more polite to boot. Highly satisfied with Kristian. ...
