About Erin

Hi Everyone,

My name is Erin and I'd love to help you or your child succeed in school.

Language arts and, especially writing, can be intimidating. I'm here to help. I have an English degree from the University of Washington and have been writing in different forms for over 20 years. I even had a book published in 2014. In addition, I've worked with every age group, from elementary students to college students, helping young writers gain a better understanding of what it takes to succeed. I also have experience helping college hopefuls with their admissions essays. I have spent countless hours volunteering in my childrens' classroom as well as working with at-risk 18-25 year old women who are pursuing further education.

My main goal is to engage students because once someone is interested in learning, the sky is the limit. I get to know each student's learning style and tailor interactions so that each student can feel understood and motivated. I also try my best to make learning fun.

I look forward to hearing how I can help you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have ten years of experience working with people to enhance or change their careers. I have worked with writers, photographers, scientists, entrepreneurs and not-for-profit professionals helping them figure out their next steps. I am trained and certified as a coach through the Coaches Training Institute.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have volunteered in elementary school classrooms for the past 6 years. I've given assessments, worked with kids one on one and led book group discussions. I've worked with children on handwriting, spelling, reading, math and writing. I also have a kindergarten student as well as a fifth grader.

Elementary Math

For the past 5 years, I've worked in an elementary classroom helping children with math. I also have a 5th grader who excels in math so I get lots of practice at home challenging him and keeping him interested in learning.

English

I majored in English at the University of Washington and have been writing for the past 20 years. I have taken graduate level courses in editing and am currently writing a non-fiction book. In addition, I've worked in K-5 classrooms for the past 5 years and have also helped countless high school seniors with their college admissions essays.

Proofreading

I seem to have an eye for errors, which likely stems from my love of reading, writing and words in general. I graduated with an English degree and have taken some graduate level courses in editing. I've also edited/proofread a published book.
