I encourage my students to become independent learners. Although I am confident in my ability to break down scientific concepts and principles, my goal is to guide the student through the lesson plan and develop crucial study skills, while resorting to explanations to avoid hindering the flow of the lesson. Unfortunately, most students who request tutoring in math and science have lost confidence in themselves from the shortcomings of the educational system. It is important for me to practice patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement to gain the student's confidence back.
I have six years of tutoring experience, which includes tutor training and three years experience tutoring while attending the university. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a double major in physics and chemistry, a minor in mathematics, and advanced coursework in molecular biology and astronomy. I have also completed training to become a yoga and meditation teacher. I incorporate breathing exercises to help students concentrate and relieve test anxiety.

Linear Algebra in a Month
I emailed Kyle with a month before my summer break was over and going into my sophomore fall term saying that I wanted help learning linear algebra. We met and immediately made significant progress and had the entire month planned out. For me the key was that he was able to keep myself more organized and get me through the rougher portions of linear algebra. He is a great tutor and I highly recommend him. Anyone who can help a student through an entire curriculum of linear algebra in one month is incredibly talented in my mind. If you are looking for an intelligent tutor to keep you organized and help you learn the material, then he is the perfect tutor for you.Colan, 9 lessons with Kyle
Really knows how to teach!
Kyle tutored my son in some very difficult mathematical concepts and did a fantastic job, very impressed! Would not hesitate to recommend for GRE tutoring. I’m sure that Kyle would also be a great tutor for any grade level.Christina , 17 lessons with Kyle
Kyle taught me how to better organize my work. I appreciate that he is patient to answer all of my many questions. That is how I learn best and my teachers don’t have the time.Kana, 20 lessons with Kyle
Fantastic, knowledgeable tutor
Kyle helped our son with his Honors Algebra II. He invested time up front with us to discuss our son's learning style and his approach. He developed a plan of action, which we shared with our son ahead of time. The lesson went beautifully! Our son was energized and enthusiastic about working with Kyle, and immediately asked if he could help the rest of the year. Kyle provided a general plan for our son to work on between lessons, and followed up with us by phone the next day. We highly recommend him!Jacqui, 4 lessons with Kyle
Encourages thought and curiosity to indirectly improve knowledge base
In just two sessions, Kyle has opened my mind about the constructs of chemistry and mathematics in a way that makes me even more curious about these subjects. With his patience and thoughtful introspection, I have not only improved my test anxiety, but also become a more inquisitive and thoughtful student. There have been no questions left unanswered and after each session, I feel a little more confident than before. With some humor, wisdom and a level of academic depth that is rare in most individuals, I am certain Kyle could have a bright future as a professor in some grand academic institution that values curiosity rather than contrived instruction.Olivia, 5 lessons with Kyle
Very knowledgeable on college chemistry concepts - including kinetics, acid/base reactions and equilibrium reactions. I highly recommend Kyle for your tutoring needs, he's patient and is able to easily convey challenging concepts into a more accessible format for understanding.Christopher, 3 lessons with Kyle
Flexible and efficient
My son missed several weeks of 9th grade math (geometry and trig) and needed a mini-boot camp over Spring break. Kyle met with him twice, reviewed and reinforced missing concepts, and had him crank out 6 worksheets and 3 multi-page packets of overdue school work during the holiday. The first session was (necessarily) quite rushed, and in response to my son'sfeedback, Kyle went much slower on the second visit. My son is proud of his effort and I'm very glad I chose Kyle.Frith, 1 lesson with Kyle

Kyle is AMAZING!
I contacted Kyle to help my son at Seattle University who was struggling with chemistry and independent learning, Kyle quickly built a relationship that my son trusted and could do his best work. They met weekly and my son basically went from failing class to getting an A. Kyle taught my son independent study skills. I would highly recommend Kyle as a tutor. My son is now confident and moving forward on his own goals.Liza, 15 lessons with Kyle
