I have a Bachelor of Science and Ph.D. in Education. I am a certified elementary (K-8) school teacher, long-time professional tutor, and family educational consultant with extensive experience in teaching/tutoring children in all levels of reading, writing, math (through geometry), and Spanish. I help students with homework, including study and organizational skills.
I specialize in and have had tremendous success with students with AD/HD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and high-functioning autism. I work with parents, students, teachers, and/or others to design and coordinate the best approach and curriculum for my students.
I use a holistic approach to identifying issues that may be impacting learning. When needed, I provide written observation and/or progress reports to help parents communicate with schools and/or family doctors regarding formal diagnosis of learning disabilities. In addition, I have been instrumental in helping parents obtain school accommodations for their children.

We were lucky and happy to find Linda. She had a difficult task working with twin 10-year-old boys, who didn't always want to work according to our schedule. Fortunately, Linda is a dedicated professional who focused on the task at hand, and worked diligently at raising their reading and writing skills to grade level. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to help their kids keep up in school.

UPDATE: We are now 5 sessions into tutoring with Linda and the grade has improved from a D to a B. Only 28 days of school left, but a B+ or an A for the semester look very attainable. He's worked hard to change the grade around and Linda has been excellent support for encouragement, expertise, and study skills.
Linda has been tutoring my 1st grade daughter in reading and math since the beginning of this school year. Thanks to Linda and all the hard work they did together, my daughter went from falling painfully behind in reading and comprehension to reading at the grade level and above. She progressed 4 to 5 levels in reading this year. Linda evaluated my daughter's reading skills and quickly understood that the typical phonics method would not work for my daughter. She adjusted the lessons to emphasize site reading skills and provided very effective reading materials to practice reading comprehension and speed. My daughter went from struggling even through the simplest of texts to reading easily. We are very proud of her and grateful to Linda for unlocking our daughter's abilities and helping her learn her individual way. We also saw great results with math. Linda is always punctual and on time. She has not missed one lesson all year. She also brings great positive "we can do it" attitude that undoubtedly helped as well!
Our son has been working with Linda for about 6 months now and we are very pleased with the progress he's made and his improvement in school. Linda is just the right mix of patient and also appropriately demanding that our son work hard during their sessions together. Linda helps him out in all school subjects.
Linda has been working with our son for four months. He struggles with math and has attention issues. She is very patient, and explains the concepts in a variety of ways if he needs it. His teacher has told us that he is more confident when doing math, and his math skills have improved significantly.

This review is revised and based on a conversation I had with my son, one week after his session with Linda P. He was not comfortable with her or the lesson and when pressed, he said one reason was because the "rule" was you were not allowed to get up from the table unless you told her what you needed. This in and of it's self is not an issue for me but what she did while he did his homework by himself, is. She was playing card games on her cell phone. When I told her we would not be soliciting her services again and why, she said she was monitoring him and he was able to do his work on his own.
I am sure that this style works for some students and families, we are not one of them.

As I learn more vocabulary, Linda adjusts her dialog with me to add more words and push me a bit. She is so patient with me!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have worked with students of all ages who have AD/HD and dyslexia as a classroom teacher, a professional tutor, and as a parent (i.e., my daughter had all the elements of ADHD). I worked successfully with my daughter and my students to organize their backpacks, assignments, and thoughts. I have helped them to be prepared for the next day, which made them feel confident and happy.
Algebra is scary for many people. I have found that by explaining a little about why or how we use algebra helps. In addition, I let them take as long as they need to compute the problem or until they ask for my help. I often help my students memorize (or read) the steps for each type of problem...and we practice, practice, practice.
My students have actually come to enjoy doing problems. This response may be because I work the problems right along with them. When our answers differ, we do them again to figure out "who's right". Sometimes they're right! We laugh, they feel good, and they want to do another.
