About Jacob

Hello!
My name is Jake, and I am a new resident of the Seattle area. I attended the University of Montana, where I received degrees in both History and Political Science. I recently completed the necessary coursework for teacher licensure and am set to student teach in the Seattle area next fall. I have held two positions as a teacher's assistant and have completed 40 credits towards my Masters in Education. When my student teaching is completed I will be certified to teach History, Government, Social Studies, and Economics at the middle and high school levels.

While I feel that I have the education to justify my employment as a tutor, my ability to interact with students on a personal and instructional level is my greatest asset. I firmly believe that relatability, humor, and patience are the strongest characteristics an educator can possess. An effective tutor must understand that students who need tutoring are learning this information for the first time and are not necessarily poor students. They simply need the information to be presented in a different format. It is the role of the tutor to create a platform for concepts to be relatable, simple, and hopefully fun! I look forward to talking with students and parents to see if I am the right fit for their situation.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I played baseball all through high school and college. I competed in American Legion, AAU, as well as for my high school team. I played 1 year of Division III baseball in North Carolina and 2 years at The University of Montana.

Proofreading

I have a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, with a 5-12 LA/SS endorsement. I have 4 years experience teaching LA/SS in Renton, SD, and 5 years experience 1-on-1 tutoring.

Social Studies

I have two Bachelor's Degrees: one in History and one in Political Science. I am currently finishing up my Master's Degree in Comprehensive Social Science Education. This past fall, I was a teacher's assistant for an 8th Grade U.S. History class in Missoula, MT.

Outstanding — Jacob is an outstanding tutor - truly - he is not the first we have used, so I can make comparisons. He makes the material very relatable to your student and is encouraging without being patronizing. He also keeps your student's interest when it flags as is bound to happen in an hour of studying a subject they are probably not fond of. If your child needs help in what Jacob offers, grab him. He is ...
